Cal was his own worst enemy. He was too busy trying to be a savior to poor families. I think he saw a little bit of himself in some of the kids he recruited that had a little chip on their shoulder and didn't have much money. He was slow to adapt to changes in the game from the offenses he ran to how young he built his rosters when just about everyone else was trying to get older. You combine that with how far behind Mitch was on everything and that's how we fell behind.
I think you hit the nail on the head about Calipari’s coaching. Once he decided to live or die with freshmen the smart thing was to create a simplified approach and rely on effort and athleticism.

I also think you’re right - at least partially - about Calipari’s motivation, because I believe he was a good guy at heart. But I suspect he was also heavily motivated by his desire to build a legacy tied to OAD freshmen being chosen in the 1st round of the NBA draft. After 2012, if not before, I think he decided putting freshmen in the NBA would be his primary goal; and while he would love to win a championship, he would ultimately sacrifice it to his primary goal.

Dusty May leaving opens up a couple possibilities: Kentucky takes the money offered this kid and poaches someone from Michigan's Top Five roster, now all available, or Kentucky goes back to Kustirica's agent and says, "you're leverage has evaporated. Two years. No minutes restriction. Sign now or we are moving on."

Well, it looks like Michigan and Dusty May are out of the running unless he wants to play for some hastily promoted "acting head coach" in a system undergoing the earthquake of a head coach departure in late June. If playing for May was the kid's agent's leverage against Kentucky, the pendulum may be swinging back...Nobody in their right mind should want to play for the Eighth Dwarf "Mouthy" Mick Cronin in a mostly empty Pauley Pavilion.
and if UM slaps an interim tag on an assistant coach, there is a chance he wont be there in year 2 of that 2 year deal he could be locked in too.

We need a codicil to the "We Didn't Want Him Anyway" for this 17-year-old: "We didn't want him for a maximum of fifteen minutes a game so he could audition for a bigger contract in his mandatory second year in college anyway."

In this case, it isn't a rationalization, it's just sanity.
He can get bent if he won’t agree to stay year two. He’s not gonna come in making 6 million a year and play like crap for 15 minutes a game only to leave when he gets used to the game.

All you need is an “I heard” quote from an “insider” with no named source, evidence, or logic for the usual suspects to accept a vague claim as fact and argue against it.

Why are you quoting some random dude on Twitter like it means anything at all? Jesus dude.
It means everything to these people. Now Kusturica is demanding a 15 minute restriction. All because some random guy on the internet quoted another random guy and he heard from anonymous sources. They’re told what to think and blindly believe it because they can’t think for themselves. It is now just accepted as fact. Just like a player not wanting to go on a foreign trip. They believe it with their whole heart and now the inmates are running the asylum. They’ve spent the last 7 months lying and telling everyone about NIL restrictions at UK that don’t exist. This is how these people operate.

With how NIL works, can you really prevent someone from jumping into the portal if they want to? Seems like getting him here this year gives us about as much of a leg up on retaining him as you can really get. If we have to renegotiate next year, that's just the name of the game these days.

UCLA? I admit I haven't been following this one, just checking in here and there (and this thread was so hijacked I started to ignore it). But I don't recall UCLA being in that mix - just today in this thread it was Michigan, then UL vs. UK, and suddenly some Twitter dude says just UCLA and Michigan? Now another poster just said UK is out?

So much for "94% crystal ball"...
