Laurent Schwartz won the Fields Medal and has three academic descendants (Grothendieck, Deligne, Scholze) who won the Fields.
Similarly, William Browder never won the Fields, but he has three descendants (Freedman, McMullen, Mirzakhani) who won the Fields, and another, Dennis Sullivan, who won both the Wolf and Abel Prizes, Sullivan —> McMullen —> Mirzakhani. Mirzakhani was very very great, she died young and McMullen would say, “I was flattered that she would talk to me as if I knew what the hell she was talking about.” Lol.
I have a friend whose daughter’s academic grandfather won the Fields, and she is married to someone whose academic father and grandfather both won the Fields. This daughter and I are academic cousins, as we both descend from Zariski.
