No World Cup games in Chicago but otherwise accurate...
The World Cup fans falling in love with America aren’t in the places MAGA controls ... they’re in New York, LA, Seattle. Chicago, San Francisco, and Boston, the cities Republicans have spent a decade calling dangerous, godless hellholes that apparently the entire world wants to visit.
The point is the tweet. Chicago doesn’t host any World Cup matches.Chicago is the 2nd most visited city in the U.S. behind Orlando. I was there last weekend and the city was PACKED. What is your point?
It hosted in the last world cup. I believe fiscal responsibility is the reason it withdrew its bid this time around. Something about not spending a bunch of taxpayer money. Same reason they aren't giving the Bears a bunch of money. Wow, seems like they are trying to get their fiscal house in order and don't need to spend on "glamour" events that are NOT needed. Chicago IS a world class city world cup or not. You get your talking orders from stupid people so understand you need to talk down on Chicgao for.....politics....stupid people's team sport....own the libzzzzzzzzzzzzz. LOL.The point is the tweet. Chicago doesn’t host any World Cup matches.
Chicago is a World Class city, and I mean that, why did it get passed over for “lesser” cities?
i lived there for 15 years, still own property, going for three weeks next month. Im well aware of what goes on in Chicago. And the government is crooked as hell, and has a lot of room for improvement. It hosted in the last world cup. I believe fiscal responsibility is the reason it withdrew its bid this time around. IM JUST ASKING THE QUESTIONS!!!!Real or not he highlighted parts of the USA that weren’t major cities.
It is interesting that he could be some type of psyop. I want it to be real though, what a story if it’s true.

buy why? Why did a World Class city not want to advertise their greatness to the …. World?Because Chicago passed on the World Cup
The US did play Germany 3 weeks ago on their final match before the World Cup. A German influencer loved it.
Tell us, chicago land owner.buy why? Why did a World Class city not want to advertise their greatness to the …. World?
I checked and by most accounts they broke even on hosting their last World Cup event so I don’t buy the money excuse.

Well played
It's not necessarily about dense areas in red states. Let's look at some local examples:
Most violent crime per capita in SC: Orangeburg County
- Clyburn (D) is house rep
- Voted Harris (D) in 2024 election
- Voted Biden (D) in 2020 election
- Voted Clinton (D) in 2016 election
2nd most violent crime per capita in SC: Allendale County
- Clyburn (D) is house rep
- Voted Harris in 2024 election
- Voted Biden (D) in 2020 election
- Voted Clinton (D) in 2016 election
Do Orangeburg or Allendale counties strike you as dense population areas? In fact, Allendale has the lowest population density of any county in SC. Orangeburg is 23rd.
Anyways, the "red state" spin on violent crime is just that, spin. The majority of violent crime in red states comes from blue counties, regardless of population density.
Only the Cubs got kilt.I went to Cubs/Cards on Friday and didn't even die once.
I want Chicago showcased too. But I‘m happy the city made a financially smart decision here. It rarely happens that the city makes a tough, but smart financial call on something. Had they done this more often in the past it wouldn’t be in the mess it has been.Blame it on Rahm Emanuel. His concerns were legitimate.
Still would like Chicago to showcase its greatness on the world stage.
Chicago withdrew its bid to host 2026 FIFA World Cup matches in 2018, so it was never selected as a host city.9
The 2026 tournament (ongoing as of June 2026) is co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico across 16 venues total (11 in the US). Chicago and Soldier Field were initially considered but opted out early.5
Key Reasons for Withdrawal
Then-Mayor Rahm Emanuel and city officials cited several major concerns after reviewing FIFA’s hosting requirements:
• Financial risks and lack of transparency: FIFA couldn’t provide clear assurances on costs (e.g., security, infrastructure, fan zones) or guarantees against taxpayer burdens. Emanuel described it as refusing to write a “blank check” that could “fleece the taxpayers.”19
• Inflexible FIFA demands: The organization was unwilling to negotiate key terms. Issues included potential requirements like building or funding a dome over Soldier Field (estimated at tens to hundreds of millions) and restrictions such as no-go zones around venues that could disrupt other events.29
• Uncertain economic return: Officials worried the city might incur debt or net losses rather than significant benefits, despite tourism potential. Similar concerns led Minneapolis and others to drop out.20
A 2018 statement from the mayor’s office summarized: “The uncertainty for taxpayers, coupled with FIFA’s inflexibility and unwillingness to negotiate, were clear indications that further pursuit of the bid wasn’t in Chicago’s best interests.”26
Context and Aftermath
• Chicago has a strong soccer history (e.g., hosting elements of the 1994 World Cup and international matches at Soldier Field), but fiscal caution prevailed.30
• The selected US host cities include Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle.43
• Chicago is still benefiting indirectly through watch parties, tourism spillover, and events like the US-Germany tune-up match at Soldier Field. Some locals view the decision as prudent, while others debate missed opportunities.2
This aligns with broader skepticism from several cities about FIFA’s hosting model at the time.
