Been listening to some of the great Motown performers. Currently bingeing The Temptations.
Interesting that during the heyday of Motown that when they appeared on TV they had to lip sync and have these choreographed dance moves. Including on this gem, “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg”.
And then there’s this simple yet catchy toetapper, “Get Ready”.
And then there’s this masterpiece. I love that there’s the steady, unchanging baseline and percussion that drives the beat. Then the extra sounds that are folded into the mix, including the strings, guitar with wahwah effects, the hand claps, and the solo trumpet with echo. And the story that is told through children asking mama about papa.
