The general public never seemed to take issue with him until his support for Trump became more outspoken.

Interestingly, he rarely (if ever) expresses those views while performing his professional duties.

We have SI Kids Magazine and Chris Barron to thank for Lalas not just adding into the background in the late 90s.

SI Kids with those damn perforated trading cards of Lalas and Cobi Jones made him a better known name than he should have been.

And Spin Doctors having 2 big hits in the year leading up to the '94 World Cup played in the US helped make him known in pop culture due to resemblance.

People have been complaining about that idiot since long before Trump even though about running for president.
I never suggested he didn't have detractors. My point is that it hardly seems coincidental that their presence on social media has become more pronounced as his political views outside of soccer have gained greater visibility.

Or maybe it’s because it’s a World Cup year and more people are watching & there’s a lot more media coverage.

Good lord! I liked his brashness on the field. It does not translate to the booth. I had no idea of his politics until I read your comment.

So your criticism of him ultimately comes down to a perceived lack of sensitivity?

Fair enough. Everyone has different criteria for what they value in a commentator.

He’s a cocky SOB and pretty obnoxious. If that is because he lacks sensitivity that’s a new diagnosis to me…

I had no idea about his politics, nor do I care. I’ve thought he was an idiot since his playing days.

What did he do while at Padova or the USMNT back in the mid-90's that made you think this? or early 2000's?

I just can't recall anything serious back then.

I’ve just always thought he was a bit of a goober type idiot. It just stems from interviews back then.

I don’t even know who the two guys were calling the US game yesterday, but I thought they did a really nice job. Informative and not overbearing.
