So hard to judge coaches in this era. Money is as important as anything so the playing field is severely tilted. Of course a great coach makes a difference. But if he doesn't have the financial backing needed to compete against his peers his influence will be limited.

What would you rather have? A decent coach with a $20M NIL figure. Or a great one with a $8M NIL figure.

Yes this is an exaggeration, but the point remains.

I don’t think Grown has failed though to date in the Cooley era for lack of resources. I think it hasn’t worked because Cooley hasn’t been there what we thought he was, for whatever reason.

Remember him and Pitino got hired at the same time. You couldn’t have had two more diametric outcomes to date, in each direction.

Now I’m a resume guy, and so I’m not giving up on Cooley yet because of what he did at Providence over a lengthy period (wasn’t a flash in the pan scenario). But it’s starting to “get dark early” in Hoya world IMO. And it’s not just the on court stuff. Their fan attendance makes ours look like Creighton.
