PA is being raided by other programs.
Cignetti Jr has a plan. Culture over talent.
PA is being raided by other programs.
That OL at Tech is going to be bad bad too. After CJF was fired and the offense was changed. Grunk is now back under Franklin's oversight. We shall see. Will Ty Howle, as a first-time OC, be given liberty to deviate from the Franklin offensive scheme?

Sorry.FWIW: You're arguing with the wrong guy.
It was LMTLION saying that.
I - like you - was telling him he was all wet.
This is not a Campbell issue. Perhaps the PSU "war chest" seemed massive from a distance (in comparison to ISU).If this is the explanation how much did PSU offer each of three and how much are Nebraska, Tennessee and Georgia offering. I thought I read when Campbell was hired that he would have a boatload of NIL money available.
PS as Joe once said is not for everybody. Today recruiting is such a crap shoot when it comes to personalities and what a recruit is looking for, money instant playing time not wanting to compete with others at their position in the same class playing close to home playing for a top brand etc. These recruits are all trying to maximize their position probably based on different criteria, but I would guess money is the biggest factor.Rutgers was in his top 4. They are neither in the SEC or in a position to drop a big bag for a single recruit. Some of that may be true, but at some point, we can’t just assume the kid is wanting a bag every time a recruit goes somewhere else. It comes off as sour grapes.
I think they struggle to have a winning season in a semi average league. That OL at Tech is going to be bad bad too.
They have two cupcakes in weeks 1/2, even if they di lose to one of them last year. He will out talent them with the guys he brought from PSU. I think he will beat MD and Cal, though flying cross country is always tough. After that, I can see a toss up at BC, just due to back to back road games. Pitt will be tough but home so Win for JF because Duzz is a doofus. A win over GT, L against Clemson and SMU, W against Stanford and then 2 L's against da U and Virginia. I could see them upset UVA since they know Beau and its at home.I think they struggle to have a winning season in a semi average league.
That is all good points, but when the AD boisterously states the standards of the coaching position at PSU is winning championships, then the bar has been set from within. Ultimately, Campbell will be judged on wins and loses, just like every other coach in the country. It will be much tougher to win in this conference than where he previously coached. It will also be much tougher to win without playmakers in this conference. When you have top level prospects in your backyard that are going everywhere else but PSU, that doesn’t help. As you said, time will tell.PS as Joe once said is not for everybody. MC's pitch isn't going to resonate with everyone maybe a lot of people in this day and age. I think he really is a throwback of sorts when it comes to his core values and the way he will operate. A lot of what he says and does reminds me of Joe and other coaches from that era. Does that fly with these young guys today, I guess time will tell but I like it.
No problem - these threads get convoluted sometimesSorry.
True, once someone on one team switches schools, the whole NIL/payment amounts shift and move up/down, giving other players a chance to ask for more and staffs to give more if they see fit.December 3rd is a long way away. Can't live and die with every turn 6 months out from Signing Day.
I get his tone may have been a little bit of a turn off... but what is he supposed to say, "Our standard is to suck less every year"? There was no version of this first real class where we dominate the state until we have a full year under the belt for CMC. If he can get us to 10 wins and in the conversation for CFP then next year we will be in a better position. That is all good points, but when the AD boisterously states the standards of the coaching position at PSU is winning championships, then the bar has been set from within. I don't know about their OL but the early projections I saw say that they return 69% of their production from last year which is 4th in the country and that they are expected to win 7.5+ games. Their only ranked opponent is Miami.VT going to 5-7 or 6-6 at best this year.
If you don’t have the NIL funds or the resources to compete with the big boys, then don’t pound your chest telling us that you fired Franklin because PSU has standards of winning championships. That’s just hot air at this point. Also, why do we need to give CMC a full year to get up to speed in recruiting? Sumrall is doing just fine recruiting at FL. He’s in his first year as a P4 coach, including getting the #1 recruit in PA. Kiffin is doing just fine in his first year at LSU, including getting a top 5 recruit in PA and 2 kids overall in the top 20 in PA (More than PSU so far). Chesney is doing just fine in his first year as a P4 coach WAY out of his usual recruiting footprint at UCLA. He just snagged a high rated WR from Pottstown, PA. Imagine getting a kid from Pottstown to commit to live and play in LA. Heck, Franklin seems to be doing just fine recruiting at VT. He just flipped a high ranked LB from ND. So, why do we need to wait longer to take the recruiting training wheels off of Campbell? Don’t get me wrong, this class is solid, but it lacks playmakers. There’s zero “elite” recruits in this class and the ones we were being told would be “elite” are now looking elsewhere. As Sean Fitz said in his On3/BWI podcast, this staff needs to learn how to recruit elite talent, because right now they are learning on the fly. It appears that Campbell is still the most comfortable trying to find diamonds in the rough. He’s going to have to adapt to the B1G level of competition. FYI. I appreciate the response. I’m not directing this at you, just a conversation.I get his tone may have been a little bit of a turn off... but what is he supposed to say, "Our standard is to suck less every year"? IDK - I'm starting to think these sites and "insiders" and "predictions" are part of the issue with fans.
Did anyone really think Hall was coming here? It seemed bizarre from the start. Everyone had to know a highly rated kid from Alabama was going to get a bag from an SEC school? The crystal balls and RPMs are as meaningless as verbal commitments at this point - they're just driving clicks and conversations for their most updated stories and "insider scoop." Last week they all had insider updates on how Hall was going to PSU. Now they all have insider updates on how Hall is not going to PSU and is going to Auburn. I think every time Wiltfong gets it wrong (he flops more than SGK in the NBA playoffs) everyone subscribing to his BS should get a discount off their subscription.
Sounds like Campbell probably won’t be giving half a million to the #4 WR based on his 10 yds/game the previous year
Well, according to LMTLion, he just gave seven figures to the DE that committed on Sunday who is still in high school. So, all the haters of the Olesh deal better hope that the DE contributes right away when he gets to PSU.Sounds like Campbell probably won’t be giving half a million to the #4 WR based on his 10 yds/game the previous year
Depends on the NIL deal. A hypothetical: if Arch Manning transfers, good chance that his NIL deal with Vuori travels with him and the amount does not become available to other Texas players. He almost certainly has deals that were facilitated by UT and those would behave as you described.True, once someone on one team switches schools, the whole NIL/payment amounts shift and move up/down, giving other players a chance to ask for more and staffs to give more if they see fit.
Knowing the saga of recruiting a 5 star player and how the recruiting services wanted certain things, that certain head coaches want guys to commit early, some late, some need time to finalize outside deals, etc. There will be plenty of change in the next 6 months, especially if a kid takes off or slumps during the HS season.

This makes sense. I think some of us are under the misconception that NIL is a concrete amount from year to year and if a player leaves, his NIL money is freed up for someone else. That may not be the case as you point out.Depends on the NIL deal. I’m talking about high school recruits not guys that are currently on rosters. High school kids, they wouldn’t have any kind of deals like that yet.Depends on the NIL deal. Kraft promised “elite resources” and “elite level finances” to Campbell. I am ok with playing money ball with HS recruits if they use the “elite level finances” on established top level portal players in the offseason. I guess we will find out if that’s the plan after the season.
So the amount Kraft mentioned was $30 million. How does that break down? Some is from revenue sharing, maybe $15-18 million there. The remaining money is from outside sources in the form of NIL?Kraft promised “elite resources” and “elite level finances” to Campbell. I have no idea. Just that he described it as “elite level finances”.So the amount Kraft mentioned was $30 million. How does that break down? Some is from revenue sharing, maybe $15-18 million there. The remaining money is from outside sources in the form of NIL?
"Effective immediately Coach Franklin has been relieved of his duties. We wish to thank him for his many contributions during his tenure at PSU. We wish him and his family nothing but success in the future. Circumstances have dictated that a change in leadership of our football program is warranted. We will begin a national search to find the best candidate to lead our program forward to what we hope will be unprecedented success."I get his tone may have been a little bit of a turn off... but what is he supposed to say, "Our standard is to suck less every year"? In recruiting its true what Yogi Berra said..."it ain't over till it's over." But wishing for a rival school to fail so a commit that spurned PSU swings back around is somewhat like the thinking here when some wanted DeBoer to lose big games last year, so he would come here and win big games.Another factor which can change a recruit's mind is on the field performance during the year. Imagine if Taylor commits to NU and they go 5-7 after he commits or their passing game is lousy and guys transfer out. So many factors can change til December.
Dean is gone and no big surprise.IDK - I'm starting to think these sites and "insiders" and "predictions" are part of the issue with fans.

For PSU to consistently compete for titles they need to spend.
I'm willing to let it playout. Some are wringing their hands over this.
