With the Knicks winning the NBA championship, there are now 28 franchises in the 4 traditional (US) pro sports leagues that have had more seasons without winning a championship than the Pirates. 12 of them have previously won a title at some point in the past that is getting more distant.

Another loss today. Skenes pitched well despite over 100 pitches in 6 innings but is now just 6-6 I believe

Keller was shaky in the first, but gave 4 good innings after that. Hopefully he gets back on track. They need the pitching to be better.
Yeah Reynolds and (for once) the pen really saved them yesterday. The starters need to be better...they need new arms in the pen IMO

It’s a rough patch. Injuries and inconsistent pitching have hurt, for sure.

Pirates should go and get Chapman from the BoSox. I would try to see about Sam Bachman from the Angels, he got shelled last outing but hadn't given up a run in a month before that. I would also look in to the Orioles, Andrew Kittredge, he had one awful outing in May but has been very good for them the last 2 weeks, AJ Minter LHP for the Mets as well.

Bullpen melts down again and Kelly pulls Chandler after 74 pitches. Montgomery should have been pulled after giving up the 2 singles but Kelly leaves him in to implode further and pizz away the lead. This team has dead weight (Davis, Ozuna, Cooke, etc), no bullpen and a clueless manager. Top of 9-bases loaded-no outs and they **** the bed, pathetic

Bad bad loss...gotta at least tie it up in the 9th in that situation.

Back to the old BS of not scoring runs when Skenes pitches.
I've got nothing to go on here but sometimes I wonder if #30 is "endeared" by his teammates. Discounting Cutch our last superstar was Bonds and legend has it that he was not particularly liked by his teammates.

Skenes seems like one of the guys, have never heard any different. Loved Bonds, but yes he was by all accounts an A hole.

Yes. Bonds was difficult and an a hole. With that said, he was super talented, even before “supplements”. I think many of the uber talented athletes are different personalities to deal with. After watching that documentary on the Bulls, you realize Jordan could be a real a hole to his teammates as well. I always got the impression Kobe was the same, even as a rookie. I think some of these guys demand so much of themselves that they expect the same from everyone around them. I wouldn’t be shocked if Skenes is the same, but I have never read or heard anything saying that is the case.

That throw from Bonds.

I will never forget how weak that was.

And I think this was the same series they intentionally walked Bonilla to load the bases so they could pitch to overrated head case Bonds. He never deserves the HoF
Van Slyke told him to move in more shallow in leftfield prior to that play and Bonds flipped him off. I will never forget the sight of Van Slyke sitting in CF dejected after the game.

Last night’s outcome was frustrating. Was it runner interference?
He clipped his glove so, yeah, technically, it was. Not sure I've ever seen it called that way before but it was the right call based on the rules.

I didn’t see the actual play live, just the controversy after. I couldn’t tell if he actually hit his glove or not.

Blockhead has to be one of the worst, most annoying broadcasters I've ever heard. Between the obvious things he regurgitates, nonsensical things he brings up and his constant bantering about head scratching crap you can't believe there's not a better announcer to call games but its the Pirates so he's probably in their wheelhouse for salaries.

Probably not what any of us wanted but could be worse. If they want to make the playoffs they're going to need to spend at the deadline.

Agree. If they had just half of those blown leads/saves, they would be sitting in nice spot right now.

I'm trying to look on the bright side. It took until July 22 last season to get to 41 wins.
