I only looked at the last two recruiting cycles, but Bama is top 5 in the rankings with high school recruits alone. So you think Alabama is a non contender as well?
Yes. It's fun to know we have a coach that seems to expect big things. Super happy and excited for Iowa bball.Kirk and staff value experience and talk about its importance frequently. That experience helps breed leadership, but the players that we recruit often step up if there isn't definitive seniority in a given room.
A young team makes me nervous, but it always seems that a Kirk team always matures as the season progresses, usually culminating in our best ball in November.
But even with experience, sadly football is a painfully predictable sport. This upcoming season feels like no exception, even without a lot of experience. The usual losses to elite programs Ohio State and Michigan, struggles on the West coast against Washington, and Kirk's once a season loss to a worse team likely being Illinois. Hawks will struggle with ISU despite being better but will squeak out a win, and we'll know we're out of the playoffs before the bye week with not much to play for but pride.
This is the reason why I'm waiting for Basketball season to start. I'm way more excited to see Coach McCollum on the sideline again.
This is a fact.Bowls are like the NIT.
The goal is make the playoff bracket.
Love BMCs mindset on expectations compared to FerentzKirk and staff value experience and talk about its importance frequently. That experience helps breed leadership, but the players that we recruit often step up if there isn't definitive seniority in a given room.

Most of those minutes played were not as team mates or at ISU, so not sure that means as much....78. Iowa State 17,513
110. Iowa. 11,779
This is why clone fans think they will win this year.
Do you guys actually NOT see the difference between competing against the power elite in football and in basketball. I'm constantly amazed at some of the stuff posted here or is it just Ferentz fatigue? In basketball you land a couple of difference makers and play hard and scrappy and you have a shot. In football the major difference is the overall DEPTH of quality talent from 1 to 105. That and the wear and tear of the season, injuries etc...Its that which makes it so hard to compete with the OSU's, Michigans, and Oregon over the course of a season. If this was not the case then please explain WHY are the same 4 or 5 schools at the top almost EVERY year, in football, but in basketball you see different teams every year make a run at the NCAA tourney. Why in basketball does a school like KU, UCLA, whomever not end up in the final 4 every year like OSU, Bama, etc.. do in football?Love BMCs mindset on expectations compared to Ferentz
Very important to have cohesion in a group on the field. O-Line, secondary, D-Line, it is a big deal. You have to depend on the guy being where he is supposed to be, doing what he is supposed to do.Most of those minutes played were not as team mates or at ISU, so not sure that means as much....
Clones are always searching, picking, filtering for a stat that "proves" they are better. It's what they do.Most of those minutes played were not as team mates or at ISU, so not sure that means as much....
What would you call Indiana before the last few years? A developmental program? I am so tired of that label. When are fans going to start demanding more for their money? When do we make the leap?Iowa is a developmental program, and they have stayed a developmental program in this Transfer/NIL age. Even the transfer class this year was largely multi year guys.
Those of you who are nervous about this, I’d suggest getting used to it because this is going to be the new norm for Iowa every year. Other teams will get transfers and we’ll use the next man up. Part of being a developmental program is that kids on the bench actually play at some point.
We saw a lot of the new starters already last year and I thought they looked good. Off the top of my head Buffington, Watson, Wallace, Epenesa, Hawthorne, Merrieweather, and Dotzler will all be solid or good new starters.
Reading the article, it is only counting FBS snaps too. So we aren’t getting Diaz’s, James’, Hawkins, Olagbaju, Styles, Kahmari Brown, Stevenson, or Phillips snaps counted. All of them were high performers in FCS and I feel good that they’ll fit right in in the B1G.
Why?So far we've landed a commitment from the lowest-rated QB we offered.
Missed out on 14 of a total 15 Running Backs offered - Keyon Thomas the undecided offer still outstanding
Missed out on 17 of 17 Wide Receiver's offered.
Landed a commitment from our lowest-rated Tight End offer - Jax Dejean.
No, the sky is not falling for Iowa. But, we remain the same Iowa not capable of appealing to offensive playmakers, and I think that sucks.
Lol. As if KF doesn't expect big things.Yes. It's fun to know we have a coach that seems to expect big things. Super happy and excited for Iowa bball.
Now do Miami. How'd Miami do last year?Oh, yeah, I'm sure the most remarkable story in college football history is going to be happening every season now....
Now that you've done Indiana, do teams that brought in tons and transfers and sucked.
"Ferentz fatigue." Smh.Do you guys actually NOT see the difference between competing against the power elite in football and in basketball. This doesn't even mention that in basketball 68 teams get a shot at the ring. Would Iowa's record percentage wise have placed them in the playoff if they were in football? NO. But they got in and Ben had them on point in the tourney. Who knows the way we played against the Ducks and Indiana last year had we been in the playoff , the way MG was playing at the end of the year, maybe we do some damage. The point is there is little comparison to the two sports in opportunity in post season play.
I would call them a **** program with no culture or identity. I’m with you on demanding more, but the program is what it is at the moment. What would you call Indiana before the last few years? The moment? Lol….That’s where the program has been my entire life dating back to Hayden Fry. What are you talking about?I would call them a **** program with no culture or identity. I’m with you on demanding more, but the program is what it is at the moment.
I think he meant to say, "you're welcome"The moment? Lol….That’s where the program has been my entire life dating back to Hayden Fry. What are you talking about?

It means fans like you love 8-4 seasons and no real chance at a playoff game. Kirk is a great coach, just ain’t getting over that hump with him (book mark it). How many of you chirped when Fran was let go that we were in trouble…now do you still feel the same? First year coach and takes us to the elite 8. You just need the RIGHT leader and system to change the trajectory. But you old timers in here are comfortable with they way things are versus the way things COULD be if you just think big and have an imagination..Demanding more for their money. What does that even mean?
As if the staff and team aren't putting forth their best effort. Smh

As much as I love football, I've come to realize just how predictable it is. I'd give anything to see Kirk hoist the Big Ten trophy, but year in and year out the the predictable happens. Can't hang with the elite, beat loser programs, finish 8-4, 9-3. We're so close to the next tier of college football. It's great we're able to be successful under Kirk, loser programs like Nebraska would kill to have that kind of consistency. But I'm so ready to see us get some big wins against legitimate contenders. I'm so ready for us to win a conference championship. And I'd give my life savings for a national championship. But this is why football upsets are so celebrated and remembered, they very rarely happen. It means fans like you love 8-4 seasons and no real chance at a playoff game. That's why this past basketball season was such a blast. But I think it's because basketball is overall a more unpredictable sport, making it more entertaining.

You've done a great job cherry picking the programs that have done really well with a big-time QB transfer. Now do Miami. How'd Miami do last year?
QBs Cam Ward and Carson Beck through NIL.
Winning goes through the QBs hands. These are 2 of the powerhouse teams that are following this blue print, NIL QBs.
You've done a great job cherry picking the programs that have done really well with a big-time QB transfer.
Now, as I asked, see if you can identify any teams that try loading their team with transfers, but still suck.
They would’ve made it a grand total of zero times since 2016I never said such a thing regarding the change at basketball coach.
You didn't answer my question at all.
But Iowa would have made a 12 team playoff several times in the KF era. And yes, the team has a real chance of making the playoff this season. There are very few teams in the country that can say that.
What hump? Iowa is literally the most consistently successful non-blueblood program in the country the last decade. You expect Iowa to be a blueblood? I guess you understand the "imagination" part well enough.
KF has been the RIGHT leader for 26 years. You're welcome.
And I'd be more than happy to wager that the program, under its next coach, will not sustain the consistent level of success it's acheived under KF. Imagine that. DM me and we'll draft out some specifics
And nothing significant was won in that decade.Only four programs in the country , Alabama, Ohio State , Georgia and Iowa have 8+ wins over the past decade. Iowa could easily become Minnesota or Nebraska in the future. some morons on here would deserve that.
Now that the off topic board is shut down we get to have the misfit sock puppets troll the football board. Super. And nothing significant was won in that decade.
We haven’t been able to get many (or any?) of those wtf wins lately. We'll win 8-9 games either way with a wtf win and wtf loss
Every win is significant, for one thIng.And nothing significant was won in that decade.
That projection was just....
