I’ll say it like this and I’ll leave it alone. He has not been good this year and I will be stunned if he pitches well enough for us to win the game
So what exactly would you do? Start Decaro on less rest than he’s thrown on since the regional of his freshman year? All while burning him until at least Sunday? Or start Caden (our best arm) while also noting you’re probably going to burn him till Sunday as well?

For everyone who just started following, Forbes has said publicly at least 3 times this season that Boaz Is more comfortable starting and rose is better out of the pen. We have this debate every week. You are not tapped in to some secret truth that Forbes/Gaines don’t have access to.

I will note, the 3rd SP position has killed us all season. Let’s hope it isn’t what undoes this magical run (will need a 3rd SP if we make it to the finals too)
"Killed" us is funny. We went 8-2 in game 3s in the conference and were a top-5 team who's currently 2-0 in the CWS, so it obviously didn't kill us.

We chose to have a weaker 3rd starter so we could have the best reliver in the country. I think it was a smart decision.

Why not start Rose? He has been lights out and pitching his best in the postseason. I didn’t realize stating I didn’t have confidence in a pitcher with an ERA over 7 pitching well against a good team in Omaha was such a controversial opinion
When was the last time Rose started a game for us? He’s been a totally different guy out of the pen.

We’ve lost 3 games on Sunday and a weather induced tie… we’ve lost 12 games in total. I don’t think anything has “killed” us.

I appreciate you optimism and I hope I am wrong but have we watched the same guy pitch this year? Glauber basically had to pitch a starters workload on Sundays this year
He has continued to get better as the season has progressed. He does have a pretty short leash which I think is fair, but when he's throwing strikes I think he can be effective

Boaz's troubles in his last two bad starts (State and GT) were the staff pushing through the order more than I think they would in a situation like this. If he could give us the 4 innings, 2 runs he gave us at State before we decided to let him face the order a 3rd time, I'd sign up for that. And none of these lineups in our bracket are close to GT's.

The bats are due. If we can't get going against the no. 4 starter for whoever we face, along with depleted pens, then we're in trouble anyway. Here's to 10+ runs and Boaz/Rose/Chewy gets it done for us so the table is set for the final.

We won't face either's #4 tomorrow. Unless they throw in relief today, we're going to see the guys who started Friday for either Troy or West Virginia (neither were good).

We need both teams to use their best bullpen arms today. Our approach against their starters will be fine if we can replicate previous performances.

Here’s how things played out last time we started Boaz

While his earned run count was low, his WHIP was very high and he left the bases loaded for McDuffie in the 4th. Thankfully McDuffie slammed the door with a DP. Rose came in for long relief

I hope this goes well, but consider me extremely skeptical. I’d much rather start Rose
Alright don't get me wrong, I like rose, but just looking at stat lines doesn't paint the full picture about guys. Like you have to watch them throw and Boaz has good stuff. He just needs to keep the ball down and avoid walking guys

I like the Boaz decision. Still have Jason for Thursday if we don't pull it out and it will be on one more day's rest against a pitcher who likely pitched on Sunday. Worst outcome would be decaro pitching Wed but not feeling his best on shorter rest, losing the game, and putting us in a bad spot for both Thursday and the weekend. If we pull it out Wed while resting decaro and lynch, we'll be in a dramatically better position for the weekend.

WVU may use their Friday guy today, he only threw 55 pitches and is usually good. I’m not particularly worried about the arms Troy has left

Very fair point. I think they pushed him a couple batters more than they would in many cases because the score was 8-1. That can't happen in a competitive game tomorrow.

Any base runner starting in the 3rd for me. Boaz facing Guzman or Kelly with guys on base a second time is a nonstarter for me (especially with glauber having thrown 9 pitches in the last 4 days)
agree here. one time through the order, and then to the pen at the first sign of a base runner

I like Boaz starting and getting at least 2-3 innings for us. McDuffie can come in at the first sign of trouble and pitch for 2-3 innings. Rose can follow him, and if they get us through at least 7 innings with a lead Glauber can close. If not, use Matthijs and you still have Glauber to start on Thursday. Bats need to come alive and make it easier on the bullpen. Take care of business Tomorrow, and everyone is available for the weekend.

We've seen a ton of elite arms. I expect we won't be getting anybody's ace tomorrow. I'm betting we score 8-10 runs. That should be enough for Boaz/Rose to get us to the 7th or 8th with the lead and let Duff/Globe slam the door.

Given how this games started, we’ll be getting WVUs number 2 guy on 4 days rest after throwing 55 pitches

To be fair he also repeatedly said he'd rather use Globe in relief across the weekend and then started him. Things change this time of year

From what Boaz showed against a good ECU team is that his stuff is better than his ERA. He’s obviously not going to go 7 innings and shut anyone down but if he goes 4 innings and lets up 2 runs we’re in the game and getting to the bullpen. Pitching has mostly carried us throughout the tournament the bats are gonna need to step up

Here’s my new concern: The broadcasters keep talking about how well WVU hits fastballs and that’s Boaz’s strength

My wishlist:
- Troy wins
- Boaz has a clean 2-3 innings
- Rose cleans up the long innings
- Mathjis for the save (get some confidence going into the finals)
- We win and save the key arms for the weekend

my question is would any of us trade pitching staff situations with either WVu or Troy tomorrow? I wouldn't. If any combination of Boaz, Rose, Matty M can get us through 9 innings giving up 5 runs or fewer we should win. and if we don't it will be on the offense. We will be facing a non-elite pitching staff playing their 4th game in 6 days. Offense needs to put up big numbers
