Whew! What a cool event.

Diego Lopez is a fun fighter to watch and hard not to cheer for. Cool to see him get that win.

Derrick Lewis is WASHED. He’ll never fight again in the UFC. Hokit is just weird and I hate seeing him win, but he’s a bad dude against mediocre heavyweights.

Mauricio Ruffy is about to make some real noise in the lightweight division. Humble dude, but flat out dangerous and entertaining. Michael Chandler is done after that loss.

O’Malley is just not fun to watch except in flurries, but he’s a talented fighter for sure.

Ciryl Gane made Poatan look pedestrian.

Justin 17in’ Gaethje is a bad, bad man and exciting to watch. That was one of the best main events I’ve ever watched. Topuria’s face is mush and his ribs are destroyed. So cool to see the American underdog destroy bootleg McGregor on that stage.

Great card. 7 fights, 7 finishes. I want to see what Topuria looks like today. Haven't seen many people get busted up like that. I wouldn't doubt if a rib is broken as well.

Chandler and Lewis looked bad. They didn't have any gas whatsoever. Not that I expect Lewis to push the pace, but Chandler looked turrible.

My only pushback was the crowd situation. At times, it sounded like covid era fights. I would have piped in the crowd noise from the Ellipse.

It’s really crazy to see what the UFC has become. When I first started watching, their main sponsor was Mickey’s Malt Liquor. Now they have major corporations lining up to advertise and partner with them. The growth of the sport and the UFC brand over the years has been incredible to watch.

Dana White may be completely outside the mold of a typical CEO, but there’s no denying he’s one of the best. Love him or hate him, he took what was once considered a fringe sport and built it into a global powerhouse. His ability to promote the brand, grow the business, and keep fans engaged is hard to match.

Agreed with all things mentioned above. One thing not mentioned:

The walkout cinematography with the live military band performing the music was incredible...
Agreed. That version of “Ain’t No Grave” was incredible.

I’m honestly glad it happened without much harumph from either side. i was worried it would turn into the zealots flinging poop at each other. Consider me pleasantly surprised

eta: and the setup was cool as hell. I thought it looked idiotic and trashy until I saw it in action at night

I work with several guys that are fight fans, but are anti-trumpers and refused to watch. All I told them is they missed some great matches. Encouraged them to watch the replays.

Seriously? Refused to watch because of Trump? Good Lord talk about letting the powers that be control you .Hard for me to imagine someone in my head enough to let them dictate my entertainment decisions. And Machelle Obama is a man! Am I right six packers?!!!

I'll admit I'm an old, crotchety conservative (in the classical sense), but seeing that spectacle on the White House lawn... you fellas can have it.

Nevertheless, I'm a patriotic American and I watched a couple of matches and here are my takeaways:

1. Pacing was horrendous. I’ve watched a number of boxing title fights. UFC has interminable waits between matches, which might work if the matches weren’t so short.

2. I saw two ostensibly three round matches, each called for technical knockout in the first round. Rounds at least are five minutes vs boxing three minutes (if you make it to the end)

3. So you average four minutes of action and another 30+ minutes until the next one. Really dull stuff, with a shitton of advertising.

4. Apparently every match of the evening ended in a TKO. The “sport” really needs rethinking.

Cool the event was on Paramount+ instead of the state media channel of CBS because Paramount+ does not release ratings or other viewership metrics, so Trump can claim it was “viewed by more people than the final episode of M.A.S.H.," with no fact checking.

I hate UFC, soccer, and hockey in that order. On second thought, soccer, hockey, and UFC. Wait, hockey, UFC, and soccer.***

(Just kidding, mods.)

I'm far from being a lefty, but this event was a little to close to the ending of Idiocracy for me.

I read this morning that it was a 6MM average viewership.
But that is gone and replaced with 'numbers are being tallied'.

Odd.
