  • Established in 1854 and named after Francis Burt, the first Governor of the Nebraska Territory.

  • Lettered at UNL at 1955 as a running back, leading Nebraska to the 1955 Orange Bowl.
  • Stood approximately 5’8” and 160lbs.
  • 1st Team All-Big Seven selection
  • 1955 Tom Novak Award Winner
  • 1955 Outstanding Senior Player Award winner
  • Academic All-Big Seven Conference honoree
  • Member of Phi Gamma Delta and president of the fraternity.
  • Chose Nebraska over Colorado
  • Went on to become an OG/GYN MD
  • Served in the US Army from 1966-1968 as part of the US Medical Corps
  • Served on the Board of Directors for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas for 39 years.
  • Nebraska Football Hall of Fame Member
  • Rex passed away in 2018 at the age of 84.

I would consider Bertha Nebraska another ghost town of Burt County. I believe the old dance hall is still standing.

Bertha hall . The only venue in America that had Lawerence Welk and the White tornado ( stripper) perform on its stage.
