Regarding Andrew Gaze, I was watching a SHU preseason game at Walsh gym. I was
in the 2nd floor set of seats, two very good looking Australian women were next to me.
One blonde and one brunette, one was Andrew Gaze’s girlfriend. It was before the 1989
season, SHU really clicked as a team in that game.
After the game I went to a club in South Orange, it was dark in the club. A girl approached
and told me nice game. (She mistook me for Gaze).
My best friend from Rahway,NJ often placed bets with bookies on sports. SHU was picked
before the season to finish 7th out of 9 teams in the Big East by the Coaches. I made a
comment to my friend Glenn “SHU is going to finish higher than 7th“.His response to me
you want to bet $50 on each SHU game with the point spread considered on each game.
I said “Yes” I made a lot of $ that season.
SHU beat Kentucky in the Great Alaska Shootout semi-final game and beat Kansas by
12pts to win the Championship Game. In the NCAA Tournament SHU beat Indiana by 15 pts
coached by Bobby Knight. SHU beat UNLV by over 20pts coached by Jerry Tarkanian to
get to the Final Four in Seattle,Washington.
I played pickup games at Walsh Gym with Andre McCloud and Anthony Avent. Anthony
Avent gave me one ticket to the semi-final,one ticket to the final for the Final Four in Seattle,
Washington. I payed for round trip airfare from NJ to Seattle, also hotel and food.
I sat floor level 8 rows-even with FT line in the Seattle Kingdom for the Final Four. Jerry
Lucas sat directly behind me, I talked to him about the game. (He was very friendly). He
said to me after the Championship game between SHU and Michigan the foul call by Ref
John Clougherty vs Gerald Green guarding Robinson of Michigan should not of been
called with 3 seconds left in the game. (It decided the NCAA Championship Game that
year). Jerry Lucas was an All American at Ohio State and also played for the NY Knicks.
(Anyone can watch the replay of that call-it was a phantom foul).
