UK has signed their top pitcher but all things indicate he will forego College and go in the draft.

1500 Boys go to Trinity . The equivalent of a 3000 person school ie larger than some colleges. And pulling from a wide area including a number of kids from surrounding counties and Indiana.

St X has won how many swim and golf and tennis championships and Trinity how many football championships using the same formula so not sure what kind of feel good story ? BTW St X was the second best baseball team in the state but did not have three stud pitchers. Willoughby (Mr Baseball) was only one of three capable of throwing a shut out .

If this continues next year baseball may need to go to a three or four class system depending on enrollment .

Founded in 1953, Trinity has won 3 times now in baseball and 2 times in basketball in those 72 years. Neither sport has classes yet ... of course.
It is interesting to review the champions lists in various sports, especially the dominance in wrestling, volleyball, tennis and swimming & diving.
St. Xavier is far more prominent than Trinity across the entire sports spectrum, which I never realized.

I saw a chart that showed that they had four pitchers that threw 90+ and someone said that their first seven hitters were D1.
DAMN !!!! That is some serious talent.
I remember back when Steve Chandler coached LaFayette ... I think 8 of their starting 9 signed scholarships, I'm pretty sure ... not to mention their pitchers.

There are under 1200 kids at Trinity. It’s never had 1500. The fast majority of those kids are fed through the catholic school system. Very few are “recruited.” In fact, most of the “recruited” kids approach Trinity. Like most kids who want to go to Trinity, they find a way to get them there. An African American kid in my class was from Shepherdsvile, didnt play any sports and didn’t pay a dime. He did work school events, make great grades and always remained an asset to the school. Trinity is not perfect but they generally are doing what’s best for the kids.

I am pretty amazed that when stories of the two prominent private schools are mentioned on this site, meaning Trinity and St X, how most of the thread is filled with hate and jealousy over their accomplishments. Doesnt matter what sport. Though i dont keep a running tab, i suspect most of these posters are negative toward everything the football and basketball cats too. Cant just give credit where credit is due. Sad way to live.

Ranked #1 in the Country by Max Preps.

Has to be the best Ky HS baseball team of all time. Back to back titles.
3 total.

I think Harrison County back in the 90s was the last. Were/Are they a private school?

Congratulations. Tough to win in Ky HS baseball. Lots of good coaches players and teams. One good pitcher can beat a top team in the playoffs.

Have you thought "hmmm.......how could a private school do so well?".

The following is from ChatGPT and should put this discussion to rest:

When considering total KHSAA team state championships across all sports over roughly the last 20 years (2005–2025)
, , based on school and KHSAA records, these four Louisville powers have dominated Kentucky athletics:

SchoolRecent state championship totals (approx.)
Trinity High SchoolAround 70–90+ team state titles since 2005
St. Xavier High SchoolAround 90–110+ team state titles since 2005
Sacred Heart AcademyAround 70–90+ team state titles since 2005
Assumption High SchoolAround 40–60+ team state titles since 2005

A few data points that show the scale:

  • St. X has won 172 boys' state championships all-time and continues to add titles in swimming, cross country, soccer, golf, and other sports.
  • Sacred Heart reported 115 state championships overall as of 2025.
  • Assumption reports 58 state team championships all-time, with 54 coming in the past 30 years, meaning a large share were won during the last 20 years.
  • Trinity has been one of Kentucky's most successful athletic programs, including 30 football state championships and numerous titles in baseball, lacrosse, track, bowling, and other sports.

The vast majority of Ky schools have won zero state titles in anything

I don't think "jealousy" is the correct term. Theres nothing wrong with recognizing accomplishments but considering the context.

personally, I think privates need their own division.

Privates school in a metropolitan area of 1 million people, gets to recruit the top
talent. We should all be so shocked 🙄
From someone who coached at both private and public schools in Louisville, public schools like Male, Ballard recruit more then anyone in the private sector.
Public schools have raided the middle schools for talent/players while private Catholic schools prohibit them from playing underclassmen.

I have friends in Louisville and they've told me the same thing.

In Louisville, all schools recruit. Only private schools can actually offer benefits to the students. They can offer free tuition, better education, better teacher to student ratio, better facilities, better food, and enforced discipline.

Public school coaches recruit, sure, but what can they offer the student? Not much of anything

It's not the same playing field at all and the vastly disproportionate number of champions by the small percentage of private schools in the last 20 years proves beyond any doubt.

Something that I don’t understand is how a kid can play a game or two in basketball with one school and then transfer to another team in their own district and finish the season and then go back to the previous school and graduate? His family didn’t move either and it was 2 public schools.

1) why listen to that dummie when all ya have to do is google it?
2) one of the MAIN reasons X and Trinity are successful is the Catholic School System feeder system. For example, the playbook was pretty much the same in football from grade school to high school. Guys as a group play public summer leagues together in baseball and their swimmers typically are Lakeside teammates, and compete with each other in a national competition level.

Not hard to understand if you are part of it, but if you are on the outside looking in, it’s hard to figure out why.

I wish I had the answer you seek.
Many coaches will do almost anything to gain an advantage. Wha they lack in coaching skills they try and make up by cheating and stretching the rules.

I had an AD who told me the only way you're going to win is to get into the "grey" area and bend as far as you can over that line.

That’s really impressive and they’re really good.

Got my first high school hit at Trinity back in the 80s. Pinch hit double over the bag at first. Next batter hit one back to the pitcher, he looks me back then throws to first and I take off for third, surprised the first basement who bounced the throw across- safe. Coach stood there a minute then walked over and said quietly…”little aggressive there”

Privates raid JCPS middle schools for recruits. To the extent that publics have taken steps to prevent. Publics are not raiding private school kids.

No, thats not the way I roll. Sorry if thats not what you want to hear.
Well, the facts are they have the ability to hand-pick from the surrounding areas, which is an enormous advantage. I wonder why you're unwilling to acknowledge that?

Until they class all sports in this state I’ll never consider this an accomplishment. In no firm or fashion should a 6A private school with 1500 boys be in the same playing field as Berea.
High school sports have went to **** anyways with the transfers. Pretty much just an AAU travel ball system in schools now.

False.

look back to when Trinity had James Quick and some other kids. They were all JCPS traditional program students that switched to Trinity after k-8 in JCPS.

If I ran JCPS or Fayette County, I would create a sports centered magnet high school. Target the best county athletes, have majors in sports marketing, sports administration, sports medicine.

It’s a no brainer so zero chance either district does it
