Company return on investment. There are many that are worth that and way more. If Michael Jordan were playing today with the same marketing experience as he had in the 90’s - he would be worth $1B / year.
Does the hyperinflation of NFL quarterback salaries ever end? 20 years ago, Peyton Manning signed a record breaking contract getting about $14 mil/year - Mahomes new deal is close to 5x that. QB legends like Staubach, Bradshaw, Tarkenton made less than $2 mil in their entire playing careers. Crazy

IMO there should be some type of separate sliding scale salary cap for QBs that involves the rest of the cap, but not at an equal level.
Teams shouldn’t be absolved from paying their QB a billion $$, but it shouldn’t affect building a team as much as it does.
I've heard this kind of thing before but here's is why I don't care for it... Yes, that is a crap ton of cash you have to now make room for, but those same teams also benefited for years prior to having to do that. Rookie QB contracts are loved by all GM and owners. Can't whine about it if you hit the lottery with your QB and now you have to pay 'em, after getting them at a HUGE discount for years.
Maybe some version of what you suggested could work, but you'd have to make it more beneficial to the player prior to the big contact...Like, if you resign him early, you get a break on the cap. For every one year early you re-up him, a certain percentage of that contract doesn't count against the team cap. That way if gives teams an advantage to sign him to the large extension early, and benefits the player because he gets the big money sooner.
The league is so QB centered, Why give the teams with the best QBs more advantage?
