Does USA have a good chance of doing anything outside of surviving group play in the World Cup? I've heard rumblings that our group is very manageable, but can we do anything in the actual cup?

Should make it out of group stage. I don't see much more happening after that in the knockout round. I'd like to, but I just don't expect it.

We are a more exciting team in both the good and bad sense. We will likely score a bunch but be scored on plenty too. But we don’t have a single player that is top 100 in the world. So getting to the top 16 would be tough.

I wish I could answer intelligently, but soccer is the most unwatchable sport of all time IMO. It is worse than hockey IMO.
I don’t understand why people will comment in a thread about a sport simply to say how much they dislike the sport. Happens in every single NBA thread too. If you don’t like the sport, the thread is not for you. There’s no reason to comment about how much you don’t like the sport that is being talked about in the thread.

Or to tell us how disinterested they are in Mississippi State football on a Mississippi State message board.

It seems possible that a lack of attention or acknowledgment in their daily lives leads them to seek a sense of significance through this.

We’re the best team in our group and should make it to knockouts. Beyond that it’s just up to the draw really. We’re definitely talented

At best with a miracle run a round of 8 or semi final.

If we run into a top 8 team we’re done.

Short answer. No. We’ll advance to the knockout stage. Heck, 32 of 48 teams will and even with the old formats where only half the teams advanced only 1 host has failed to advance. Depending on matchup pretty good chance we advance to round of 16. But that will probably be the end. Round of 8 has only been done once in USA World Cup history (we beat Mexico in round of 16 for our only knockout stage win ever). That would be the absolute ceiling for this team. We’ve got decent forwards & midfielders. No good but decent. But the defenders are very suspect and the GK is average at best. That’s not a good recipe for World Cup success.

Agree except for scoring a bunch of goals.

I used to hate soccer. Then my kids started playing it and I started to understand the rules and the strategy. There is a reason it is BY FAR the most popular sport in the world. It is an amazing game.
I used to despise soccer, but I watch it now. I don't think we have a chance to win, but it's fun to watch the World Cup soccer. What would happen if our best athletes played soccer? Could you imagine our best basketball players and football players on the soccer field?

How old is Ream? Dude should be a locker room guy.
Think he’s 38. Same age as Messi. But he’s not a Messi 38. He was average at best in his prime. And he was past his prime 4 years ago. The fact he’s starting is a major problem.

Tru-er words have NEVER been spoken. I’d rather watch The Ocho; sorry to the soccer and hockey folks.

When Pulisic is on he’s a beast. But he has a lot of long streaks where he’s basically non existent. The way he’s playing tonight is a good sign.
Teams caught a lot of flack the last 2 years but when everyone is healthy they are solid together. Unfortunately we haven’t had much health luck

Fully acknowledge that the time spans between my watching soccer are long, but this is the most individually skilled US team I can remember. Dominant first half.
