I love this time of the basketball year. It's like a nice day in early March when you can sense spring in the air; everything is full of promise.

Two specific seasons:
The summer of 2015, we went to North Liberty to watch Randy Larson's GameTime League. From her first game before her freshman year, it was obvious that Megan Gustafson would be a star.

February 2020: I was in the stands when #2 Dowling came to #1 Iowa City High. Clark's 34 points weren't enough to beat City High and Aubrey Joens's 29 points. City High won 75-73 as Clark's last second three-pointer fell short. It was the superstar against a team. The team won.

Nothing as dramatic going on now, but I still love the anticipation as we get to know the new team built around experience and promise.

I was at the City High vs. Dowling game in 2020 too. I remember a couple things from that game.
1) Caitlin was REALLY good. She hit one of her step-back to the left shot's from about 30 with a double team coming at her. She also made numerous great passes that occasionally her teammates turned into points.

2) The rest of the Dowling team was not good. They had a decent post and another wing player who probably was a soccer player (moved well and could play defense, but had limited basketball skills), but that was it.

I really miss the Game Time and Prime Time leagues :(

Wish somebody could bring back those leagues. We're still thinking about you, Randy.
