Intimidation by Hall fans - Hurley Sr no more games at Rock

Danny mentioned this in late Feb. or March. Said he didn't go to games at the Garden for the same reason, though I saw him there during the BET.
As for Hall games, I'm sure the hecklers are few, but what a shame. Never a fan of Sr., but when I read it, I felt embarrassed as an alum.

I sat near Hurley Sr, Klingman & Bill Murray was also nearby during the 2025 game we won in our terrible season. While I am sure some people probably crossed the line with comments, most people I saw were going up the Hurley and Klingman, shaking hands, chit chatting, taking pictures, asking for autographs, etc...

Unfortunately (or fortunately), when you are a high-profile person, these are the bad things you have to deal with.

Maybe the old JC guys I sat with in the 90s, who disliked Bob Sr and took it out on Danny from the first time he saw the court now sit by the opposing bench.

Doubt it.

Those who want respect, give respect.
Pardon my ignorance, but please tell me how Sr. has been disrespectful to SHU. I really do no know so please inform me. Did he do or say something that was accurate and factual but not appreciated by SHU faithful? Im curious.
Anyone here who knows and is informed, please respond.

Hurley was at one time a great friend of Seton Hall and PJ. But when his son attended SHU he was not happy with our coach and how he handled Danny. That caused a rift between the two and I wonder if it ever healed.

Hurley Sr is an A type personality and not always easy to get along with despite doing so much for the city of JC and St Anthony's.

I once used Hurley Sr. as character witness in a minor civil litigation involving the termination of his friend and fellow employee. He was not at all helpful as I could not get him to stop talking about his (Hurly Sr's) personal accommplishments instead of saying nice things about my client. You can draw your own conclusions about his ego.

Never met Hurley Senior. A friend of mine played against him when he was coaching St Ant's, and he said Senior was harder on his players than any coach he ever experienced (and this was during games).

I've read and watched everything I could about the man, and based on that I view the guy as an absolute saint for what he did for that school and those kids for so many years.

As far as the article itself, I think it is much ado about nothing. The only mistake we make is to think our fan base would be any different than other fan bases, just like we often make the same mistake with players/coaches. Every fan base has buffoons that act inappropriately during games. Hell I once saw our "DJ" encouraging the student section to give the middle finger to a visiting team's fan base, right in front of my kids.

The reality is there is going to be some animosity from a certain segment of the fanbase when it comes to Hurley Senior. He is a NJ guy, who dictated where certain top players within the state went to college, and his kid had a bad experience during his playing days here. On top of that, the same kid now coaches the best team/program in the league. It's natural.

I will say though the episode at MSG a few years ago during the BE tournament was a bit comical. Some fan on the front row is yelling for Danny to get a "T" -- what else is new, when it comes to Danny interacting with other teams fans -- which leads to words between Hurley and Pitino -- again no surprise there because Danny isn't blind and saw exactly what was coming with Pitino on the sidelines for SJU -- and somehow Hurley Senior is getting the mix with that from the second row behind the benches. I remember thinking at the time -- what the hell is Senior doing and why aren't the refs telling him to eat his popcorn and STFU.

They aren’t. Every fan base has a set of buffoons.

This is Zags clickbait nonsense. And comparing to the Oak situation.

How is this a bad look for the school?

That’s one of the most ridiculous things I’ve read in a long long time
It is probably a small minority of our "fans." I hope not grads. And it is likely not different from a lot of places. Article in this morning's CT paper says Andrea won't go to Providence games because of her treatment there. And Hurley Sr. says the problem in Newark is twofold: "alcohol and gambling." Do those two only exist in NJ?

That said, though, of course it reflects badly on us/Seton Hall. How could it not?

Because it’s Zagoria clickbait that no one other than a small few will see. Besides that, Bob Hurley has no doubt done good things, but he is also a massive egomaniac.

Not like UConn fans are any better.
UCONN fans are loud, braggy and feel entitled. However, I can understand it and even excuse it since they have been the main reason the league is still nationally relevant(along with Villanova).
The guy driving a Rolls Royce will always feel more entitled than me driving a 20 year old Civic. I may not love it but I understand it.

Agree 100%.
We look very bad. Almost as bad as the IDIOTS at Providence. You never want to be compared to garbage PC fans, school, or **** BB program.

Yup UCONN's been a blue blood for almost 30 years now, so that comes with the territory. I say this as a Yankee fan.

Boorish fan behavior is boorish fan behavior, so I don't think it excuses anything. But every fan base has it, large or small.

Spoke to SPK yesterday. He has a very interesting take on the subject and will post it today.

Then let's see how our readers feel.

I'm calling complete B/S on this.

The last two times Hurley Sr. attended the game at the Rock I sat a few rows behind him, including the game Donovan Clingan attended. Absolutely nothing of the sort occurred like he whines. Nobody bothered him. Some students got on the UCONN team but nobody came near him or Clingan. Two years ago after the Middleton tip-in, Jack the Golfer ran by the UCONN fans chirping and he was immediately surrounded by security. Security was all around behind the bench.

Yet he doesn't whine about his son's boorish coaching behavior, far worse than anything he heard at The Rock. (And I like Danny, just saying.)

I highly doubt it was anything rising to the level of requiring the school to apologize. All the BE schools in the Northeast have some loudmouths; it’s a fact of the region and of having passionate fans. The day we stop having crazies acting borderline is the day the program is truly dead.

What a crock of bs
While his son steals our best player.
Wouldn't call it stealing.
Its t he Wild Wild West right now (this must change soon). We could not and would not reach Hines' $4-$5 million offer.
I don't like it but it is the way of the College BB world right now.
