I suspect that was off the top of his head but he's probably being quite generous. Did you lose your job because of Trump? Did your mortgage or taxes go up? Did your 401k tank?
- My community and family lived (and still do!) in constant fear because of the color of their skin due to ICE
- My grocery bill to feed my family is higher than its ever been, so much so we can barely afford it
- My utilities bills are so high I can barely afford them
- I have to almost solely use my electric car because we can't afford to pay 100 dollars to fill up our gas car a few times a month
- I had to worry about my newborn baby getting measles for months as a result of the anti-vax movement which is headed by the secretary of health, the leader of the anti-vax movement, appointed by this president.
- I have to talk to my children, and personally also have to constantly worry, about potentially an attack on the U.S. soil because of the reckless actions of this president. I don't bring it up to them, they ask me.
- My mortgage has not gone up, but my house has appreciated almost nothing since I bought it in a competitive and up and coming area in Charleston, SC at the end of 2024.
- My trans friends and community feel oppressed, hurt, and are terrified as their care, life, and support has been stripped away and their existence has become ostracized and hated.
- Because of this administration's obsession and alignment with Israel and Bibi, my wife, who is Jewish, feels her Judaism is constantly fetishized by the right and hated by the left (in response to Israel's actions in Gaza, and also Iran). This has been awful to deal with as a family
This is just off the top of my head- no president has EVER affected my actual life negatively more than this current president. I work a white collar Tech job with a large family. I have retirement, but don't invest a ton because that's not really my area of expertise.
10% undersells how detrimental this administration has been to me: a white, hetero, family man father in the south. It's closer to 50-75% worse compared to any other president (including Trump's first term) than this current administration.

The original claim is that Iran has already won the war which I said was absurd. They've experienced extremely large losses. Then you asked if that claim was any more absurd than Trump's claim that we've already won the war. I said that was also absurd (at least until we see how it ends).

Average home prices are up 4.1% over the past year. Of course all real estate is local. Are you telling me you bought at an inflated price when Biden was still president?
Gas prices have been lower for 14 months under Trump but now higher for 3 months. I don't like high gas prices either and I don't approve of this war. But suggesting that Trump has been draining your bank account for 17 months because of gas prices seems quite dishonest.
Measles shouldn't be a problem if your kids get the MMR vaccine like RFK Jr recommends.

I'd guess a lot of your financial struggles have more to do with the fact that you went to college and studied nothing useful, then went to seminary to study nothing useful ... and then had to scramble to make a life for yourself. I was flush with cash when I was your age, or thereabouts ... and had to trudge through some very rough macroeconomic times while doing so. I also understand not everyone was as fortunate ... some, like you, made bad choices, or were otherwise naturally limited, or the victims of unfortunate circumstances.

Reality is that Boomers made it all about themselves every stage of their lives. And Boomers are still doing this.
As an FYI, I'm not a boomer. My parents are, though. They didn't graduate high school. They had kids as teenagers. They grinded and grinded and lived in a tiny, tiny house, because it's all they could afford, and they eked out a lower middle class living and successfully raised 3 kids.
What's tragically funny is that tigres tries to claim boomers are sociopaths because they can't understand any viewpoints but their own ... and he does this because he can't understand any viewpoint other than his own, including that of boomers.
Tigres has INSANE anger, and he's angry at himself for his choices ... but projects it out toward others in fits and bursts.
I see all the generations in my extended family, and I don't look down on any of them, because they're all going through/have gone through the same basic struggles. Some aspects of living in each generation are better, and some are worse ... but the more it changes, the more it stays the same. The one difference now is that, due to internet connectivity, people can wallow together in their misery, and celebrate their joy, much more easily ... and that tends to exaggerate both things. That also helps explain why we're so divided and so adversarial. The Iowa locusts are evidence of this on this very board.
The point being, whatever your current age ... when you're in the age range of what the boomers are now, your generation is going to be looking back at the newer generations, giving them "advice" and tough love, and some of it will be sage, and some will be romanticized versions of what they remember, because they already went through it, and we stagnate as we get older (it's science) ... and the new generations will be looking at you (the collective "you") like you're crazy, and to blame for many of the ills of the world.

I think Trump & Co. were so pleasantly surprised by the outcome in Venezuela that they thought they could pull it off again in Iran. THAT was a serious miscalculation.
But I have to say that I am willing to trade higher gas prices and inflation in the short term if it means that Trump and his GOP toadies in Congress will pay a heavy price for it. So I earnestly hope this mess of Trump's drags out for a few months longer. And that the Epstein scandal heats up in the meantime. Oh happy day!

- I prefer personal responsibility to government dependency. I want to help people who hit a rough patch due to no fault of their own but I don't want to make them long term dependents.
- I think kids should stay in school and avoid having kids out of wedlock. Most poverty is people who failed to do those two things.
- I don't care is somebody is gay or if an adult want a sex change operation at their own expense. Just don't ram it down my throat and call me an oppressor.
- I think the government should live within it's means. Spending 40% more than we take in every year is suicide.
- I believe in a progressive tax system but I also believe you can only go so far until higher taxes become counterproductive.

The BLS says house prices are up 4.1% in the past year. Perhaps you overpaid in 2024 but it's ridiculous to say Trump tanked your home value.
I'm aware that RFK Jr has made recommendations about certain vaccines but he fully supports MMR. I have a 1 year old grandchild who received it last year without any difficulty.
