I know they've ignored college baseball pretty much all season, but reassured to know they haven't broken form just because the flagship state university is going back to Omaha for the 2nd time in 3 seasons in spectacular fashion. Not even a mention on any of the 3 local newscasts today. I'm certainly not surprised, but still frustrated and disappointed. Does any P4 school in the nation get less coverage from local TV media than Carolina? I don't think I'm wrong in that if it were the Fack WRAL would be bumping some Canes coverage for them.

The WRAL even had a quick things happening this week on their 7:00 broadcast that included the start of the World Cup on Thursday, but nothing about the CWS.

Why would anyone expect those 2 *** clowns on WRAL to say anything positive about Carolina? Pat Welter is the biggest *** around and Chris Lea thinks he is a comedian, well they both do. Juvenile as hell. But Welter will be sure to do another story on BB's girlfriend before August. He is infatuated with her. Channel 11 sports are just clueless.

Can't say that I'm an avid consumer of local news, but was surprised to see none of the regulars out there this past weekend. They were all credentialed, just didn't show.

I understand most of them were/are still in Vegas for the SCF, but they can still pull highlights from the ESPN broadcast and put it in the sportscast, if they so choose (which it sounds like they didn't.)

I've re-watched the 9th inning more than a few times. So incredible. So dramatic. So entertaining. Such a huge sports story not just for UNC but for the entire state. There are 3 local television stations and I still cannot believe how there was not a single mention of it anywhere. That doesn't happen by accident folks. They should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.

Wanted to follow up on this after this morning's sendoff... Most of the local tv crews in attendance to cover the sendoff, looking forward to seeing how many end up in Omaha.

I did learn that WRAL is only sending one student reporter to provide coverage for them. And for those in the triad, I'm pretty positive WXII will be in Omaha.

Since our “scandal” years, I have chosen to ignore WRAL as much as possible.
Their weather reporting is excellent so I watch that, then wait to see sports coverage. I’m ALWAYS disappointed. It’s a state / dook network. dook coverage is almost as good as state. Recently, UNC, state, ECU, and Wake all played on the same day. Coverage was entirely Hurricanes. I get the importance of covering the Canes. But it is ridiculous now. The two guys, Lea and Welter act like hockey experts, and appear to be showing off. They did a spot in Vegas in front of the Bellagio that was a takeoff of a scene from “Oceans 11.” The time and effort for that would have covered a lot of baseball. It was also very cheesy.

The N & O and WRAL are in the same boat when it comes to UNC unless it is a negative report.

Like I said earlier those are 2 *** clowns. Welter is a full fledged dookie. Lea has said on air he's a Heels fan but I believe he's blowing hot air. He has absolutely destroyed Friday Night Football highlights, something I have watched from it's inception. His coverage of high school football is pitiful. Welter thinks he's am expert on everything and thinks he's funny. He puts his kids on sports often
Why? I tape WRAL and WTVD every night at 6 just to watch the weather and sports on each channel.

WRAL is painful for me to watch. They constantly self promote themselves so much. I counted 32 times the other night. I emailed their general manager about it and he said all stations do it. I said not with the arrogance you do. If you go to their website you have to fight through endless pop-ups to get to what you are looking for. I try to stay away from WRAL and the N & O.

And I also sent an email to WRAL's GM last year about their lack of coverage of Carolina unless it was negative. He said all stations were doing away with coverage of local teams because they have their own web pages. Said they would concentrate on the Canes and Panthers. Smh

WNCN just aired a really nice segment about the send-off. Good on them. I'm going to check the other 2 as well.

Shoutout to WXII in Winston. I live in Burlington and flip around between Triad and Triangle news coverage. I have noticed over the last few years WXII has the most complete sports coverage in either market. The time allocated for sports in their newscasts has not eroded in the smart phone/social media era as it has at the other stations, and they pack a lot into it - high school, college, pro. It’s a throwback and I‘m glad for it.

What a dream it would be to have a strong sports broadcast at a Triangle station like the old days. It's pretty much garbage here most of the time. Bright spot is Sara Holland at WNCN, but she's a talent so my guess is she'll be looking to move along.

They're good people over there too. I was their sports intern for a summer a few years back and had a great experience with everyone involved.

Triangle legacy media sucks on UNC coverage but I think post-scandal it’s less of conspiracy and more of a business decision based on data in recent years.

They’re squeezed on media coverage from both ends: UNC is a major brand so the casual fans can get plenty of UNC news from national media like ESPN or locally based national writers while UNC also has tremendous “on the ground” independent news coverage from IC and even TOSs which they can’t compete with for the diehard fans.

Think about state…they aren’t nationally relevant and they don’t have a site of the quality of IC. WRAL and the N&O have a void they can fill and a market to reach that they don’t have with UNC and dook.

The other factor of course being the very real phenomenon of UNC fans and alumni being put off the N&O and WRAL after the “scandal” and their sensationalist approach.

N&O got hammered in a libel suit soon after they went after UNC athletics, in a totally different matter. "Sensationalism" doesn't begin to describe that rag's approach to "reporting". Now it's basically if the Raleigh sports media can't say anything ugly about Carolina, they're going to try not to say anything at all.

Lol at excellent weather reporting. They miss rain much more than they get it correct. It's a joke how often they are wrong with all the technology of today. They excel in calling for WRAL weather alert days.

Weather you can count on. Yeah right. They are wrong so many times and the online radar seldom works. I check it before I decide to mow my lawn and I can't tell you how many times it shows nothing and 10 minutes later Im getting wet. Mike Maze is terrible. Kat is pretty accurate. Elizabeth is fair. I dont know why they need a meteorologist because they use Weather models instead of their own calculations. They suck!
