A hard-throwing RHP. I mean…we’ve hit righties pretty well all season. Given the size of the park in Omaha and the righty on the mound, gotta believe that the doctor will be in the starting lineup.
Good point, Runs saved on defense can be just as important as runs scored. Carter seems the best option in RF in the spacious outfield. Should be good to go with Hull and Howe

Watched his game against Auburn. He looked damn good. Tall big guy who has a very good fastball, but he’s good bc he can mix in some very good off speed stuff. Maybe throws 5 pitches I think. He’s been very good in the post season and we will have to work hard to get to him/ get him out earlier than the 7th. Even if we scratch for a couple runs, they’ll likely stick with him if they are spread out. Can easily be a Sunday vs. USC situation where he can just eat up innings and our pitchers have no room for error. Need to be more like Edwards USC on Friday and get a couple plus run that pitch count up. Here’s to him struggling with command like Edwards did!

Still kinda surprised they didn’t go with Elliot….

If he’s truly their best pitcher, which he is, they have to start him game one so he has more chances to pitch if they keep winning.

Stat wise, he's the best.

But he's been their Saturday night starter for most of the season with Elliott on Friday night. Elliott also has the experience of being in Omaha and pitching in the title game.

And he’ll have experience pitching in Omaha after tomorrow night. Gotta play to win.
I know a few Ole Miss fans... they seemed surprised by the Rebs choice to not go with Elliott.

But i agree with you. Gotta put your best arm on the mound to have a chance to start 1-0. Hopefully the Heels can be patient (unlike most of the game 3 vs USC) and work the pitch count to get to the bullpen.

Rabe has even pitched quite a few weekend sunday games as their "3rd" starter... Not sure if he was injured and came back there, or what. Season High is 7 innings pitched, which was his last start. Seems to be limited honestly by his strikeout totals... His last 4 starts have been 14, 13, 9, and 8 K's. And his SEASON high in walks is 2! Not really sure what our approach will be - jump on certain first pitches hoping to get any chance for solid swings off, or try to work counts, even if it ends up in a huge K total for us... just to try and get into the pen. Feel like it's gonna be a low scoring tight one!

Last two postseason games (of recent memory) where we totally jumped on first pitches just did not seem to have much success doing that (Arizona G3 and USC G3).

Feels like we press a lot more when we go up swinging first pitch. Gotta work the count. Even if you get into 0-2 or 1-2 counts. The more pitches you see, the lot better the chances are of getting a pitch to hit (and seeing more pitches in theory should lead to more success later in the game)

He is very good and what makes him so good is his change up to left handed hitting . Let's go he is very good but no better than what the Tar Heels have faced in the tournament.

Ole Miss going with Rabe over Elliot or Townsend.
Rabe's been elite.

But pitching is a dependent variable. One passed ball doesn't show in his line. It shows in extra pitches, stretched innings, and a bullpen that enters earlier than planned.

Clean defense – pitcher ahead – fewer three‑ball counts – shorter innings – fresh bullpen – UNC hitters free to work deep counts – more walks - tired arms late.

Hooks is good but pen is pretty thin after that

The dude was throwing a cutter that moved glove-side, a two-seamer that ran arm-side and a changeup that died all from basically the same arm slot that looked the same for -40 feet. Really hard to hit. We didn’t hit him but really made him work. 4 walks and if we take a couple 3-2 balls it would have been 6 after only having 11 all year.
