Former Iowa defensive tackle Noah Shannon saw his college career ended because he placed one legal bet on his school’s women’s basketball team, believed to be for less than $100. Sorsby placed at least 40 bets on Indiana football while still underage, and approximately $90,000 in sports wagers using other people’s sportsbook accounts, and will be back in time for the Red Raiders’ Big 12 opener against Houston.

All because Curry bought plaintiff’s attorney Jeffrey Kessler’s specious argument that the NCAA was harming a recovering gambling addict’s welfare by enforcing a rule that every pro sports league in this country also enforces.

I think Shannon got a raw deal, but he did break NCAA rules.

Everything surrounding Sorsby from hiring a lawyer to play, the judge granting injunction, the coach backing him, and the AD backing him is incredibly shiddy and they know they're in the wrong but doing it anyway. Its completely horse shid.

Sucks hard for that guy, and it's insane that a judge would rule that the NCAA cannot enforce a rule. Also insane that TT would support the appeal. When Georgia and Oklahoma think that you lack ethics, you really should take a look in the mirror.

Plenty to be PO'd about in regard to Iowa and ISU in regard to the gambling fiasco. But kids that are in athletics know that gambling is verboten so I have no sympathy if they get caught. The MANNER in which they are caught is what pisses me off; the geo-fencing was the biggest crock of **** to come down the pike in a long time.

It's going to be interesting how this all shakes out. The Big 12 maybe just give the big old FU to TTU if they allow Sorsby to play.

Texas Tech is speed-running ruining college sports.
Their star softball pitcher, who changed the game with her $1mil NIL deal, is now holding out on the brand new pro softball league for more money.

I don't feel like this farce of a ruling should make us feel bad for Noah. I don't think and rather hope it doesn't make him feel bad. All along he has owned his mistake.

This ruling doesn't do anything to lessen Noah's mistake. He knew the rules. He broke them. He owned it.

What it should do is strengthen our appreciation of the man that Noah is and the program that Kirk runs.

TexASS Tech should get rolled over the coals for fighting this and they deserve every last bit of pain that it may cause their school.
No one with any shred of dignity or integrity should touch that school with OP's dick.

The geo-fencing is what helps enforce the laws. I def think it was unnecessarily looked into, though. But I guess when you find a crime you find a crime.

I will say that to me it felt politically motivated - a way to knock higher learning down a peg.
That is the only beef I had with it, and even that was taken with a large grain of 'you knew the rules.'

I think of my pickle ball buddy Keaton Anthony who got the boot from the Iowa baseball team as one of the 27. He might have gotten Iowa to the CWS in 2023. He was hitting .389 and had an OPS of 1.200 when he got the boot. He then went undrafted perhaps due to the gambling issue. He's now hitting a robust .400 for the AAA Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. Recently on the DL. I really hope he makes it to the show...
