Could Coach McLean being named coach of the Bahamas National team get us summer games in the Bahamas?

Summer trips are set up months in advance through the Athletic Director's office. The one outgoing Barnhart had set up fizzled because of the conflict in Israel. There are so many moving parts to an international trip for them that I couldn't see a way they plan a new trip. Barnhart on the way out, a new AD not even named yet, summer practice starting next week, and the logistics of finding multiple teams with open schedules to scrimmage, lodging, travel, etc would be a nightmare to do last minute.

We all wish they would take a summer trip, but that ship has probably sailed.

In the Bahamas??? Lets do it!!! Make it happen!!!
The Bahamas team could be a really strong one with some of the guys they had in 2025-26 and those projected for their upcoming team – although I don’t know if everybody being projected for that team would be available, e.g., Donnie Freeman, Buddy Hield, Deandre Ayton, Eric Gordon, and VJ Edgecombe Jr.

Still, there will be a large group of players that McLean will have to pare down to 12 in July. Hypothetically, what would be bad about playing a few exhibition games against UK with different Bahamian squads in July or with the final team in August?

Why they scheduled it in the Middle East at all is baffling to me. Another in a long line of Barnhart stupidity.

Pope dropped the ball yet again.

No summer trip.

But I understand. With no conditioning program our players can barely make it thru a shortened season.

Can’t be wearing them out in the summer.

Portal season ended on a good note but communication issues and overall decision making with this staff is still a problem. Pope talked up a summer trip, for some bizarre reason chose the Middle East (which I'm sure would be a massive hit with young men who'd probably want beaches and bikinis in August and not potential bombs and holy sites in the desert), the opportunity was there for another trip, and this admin said no because I don't know why. We could've had basketball in August but Pope would rather his new team just hang around Lexington I guess.

Anyway, I look forward to next year's trip to Chernobyl.

None of those coaches just didn’t try to compete. None of them had teams just quit on a regular basis.

You can make every excuse in the book. None of them will turn Pope into a good coach.

He’s going to fizzle out with this team too. He’s in so far over his head he needs a snorkel to breathe.

He’s not even taking advantage of a team building trip.

BYU loves UK for taking him off their hands. Same way we loved Minn for hiring Tubby.

No it wouldn’t. Pope is not a good coach. And his teams don’t compete. Give him Duke’s roster and he will win 63% of the games.

Here's what I know about Pope, he is not a good basketball coach. And his teams quit. BYU was glad to get rid of him just as UK fans will be when he's gone. He might be booksmart? But he is basketball stupid. He has absolutely no feel for the game.

No one can watch a Pope team play and see a well coached team.

None of those coaches had teams that just no show or quit like Pope has. year one just as bad as year two. He's never won anything anywhere because he is not a good coach.

His teams are not prepared. His teams are not in condition. His teams don't play defense or rebound. And they don't improve.

That's not changing over a summer. Pope's aberration year was 2025. He will never get to another sweet sixteen in his career. Not here, not anywhere else.

People can believe in the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus too. Doesn't make them real. Wanting pope to become a good coach will not make it happen.

As long as No Hope Pope is the coach it won’t matter who he adds.

Actually Pope recruits pretty well. He has no clue or plan that he recruits to but that’s how he coaches too.

Last year’s team was the number 2 class according to many.

They just weren’t used properly. Nor will this class be.

UK has not had a player problem under Pope. UK has a coaching problem.

He does nothing well as a coach.

UK will not be a player on the major stage until Pope is shown the door.

I believe he will be fired mid season next season.

Then let the healing begin.

Pope dropped the ball yet again.

So, what I can gather here:

1.) You’re a big fan of Pope
2.) You think he’s a really good X’s and O’s coach
3.) You fully believe in his strength and conditioning philosophy
