The off season always delivers pointlessness 🥰
But we're hooked on it hoping for a positive prediction.
Once disappointed about the outlook given, deny it and expect it will be proven wrong.
If Rutgers does as bad as Athlon thinks, we'll be arguing over the best replacement for Geg or Zinn must go chants
will start appearing if she doesn't fire him .

I have supported Grrg over the years, but now is do it or get out time!!!!

I will see what Phil Steele’s mag states when it comes out. The rest of the rags base everything on what happened the previous year, no real analysis. In any event, the team needs to exceed expectations this year, otherwise things are going to get hot.

Geg is safe, if he Grggles out 6 of 7 wins.
Greg? He's toast if that is the finish. But, as the point was made in another thread, 10-16, are all up for grabs. Nebraska, Wisconsin, NW, Maryland, Michigan State are all winnable games. And FFS, RU needs to upset someone besides their fans.
Zinn? Umm, no. She is setting the table for bring Rutgers to greatness in athletics.

Wisconsin should be a lot closer to the bottom of that list, if not at the bottom, in my opinion...
These stupid posts/polls/stuff live off of past glory.
Michigan will finish much lower than 4th.
Nits will not finish above Iowa and perhaps Illinois.

To confirm that I'm old, a favorite summer pastime has long been buying-up all the prediction magazines and devouring as much content as possible at the beach before they literally fall apart after repeated exposure to sun, sand, surf and booze. Now, with NIL, unrestricted transfers, politics and the basic free-for-all of college athletics, the mags (online or in print) are a quaint legacy. I agree that Phil Steele is still the gold standard in terms of future assessment. But, how can anyone reliably assess the future when there's no certainty in the present? The safe bet will be to go the Athlon route and use prior results and reputation to "predict" future achievement. As such, we should all anticipate disappointing predictions from the mags for the foreseeable future.

What's the difference between standings and "order of finish"?

One problem with using Athlon in "a time of certainty" is the lack of credibility from an organization that has shown the inability to be accurate in the past. Outside or deep research of the top 3 or 4 teams, the rest is guesswork based on stats and perception. You can't rely on that since 1/4 of your team changes every year.

Penn State’s schedule is criminal. They might be favored in 10 or 11/12

Great post. I used to go to the local magazine store by my office the day Athlon or Lindy's came out, and then the Phil Steele one, which was a little later in the spring. I used to read those things nonstop. Last bought one online maybe 2 years ago for the beach. It's obviously due to magazines being, well magazines, I guess. But more to do with my apathy over the current state of college sports. It's so hard to even get invested in a solid good player or two, knowing there is a good chance he will be elsewhere the following year.

I have a good collection of these magazines though for sure, in a couple boxes on a shelf in my basement. I still keep an old few on a bookshelf to look at once in a blue moon. Haha, as a huge Dolphins fan, I have an old Street & Smith's one from the early 1980s with Marino on the cover in his Pitt uniform.

State Penns schedule is an absolute JOKE. Sorry but outside Indiana, the nuts, niketown and many be usc, the conference is very weak.
