Statement From Texas Tech AD, Kirby Hocutt, On Brendan Sorsby Backlash

EDIT: So I had to change this to the original tweet from Hocutt. The original post was a tweet from ESPN CFB reporter Pete Thamel. He captioned the post with, “Statement from Texas Tech AD, firing back at critics and making clear Tech plans to play Sorsby this season.”

I wonder who pressured him to delete that…

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.. A whole lot of words to say we're going to play the kid, and there's nothing you can do about it. Pompous A--. If the coaches there didn't think he was their starting QB going forward, just HOW dedicated would they be to his recovery from "addiction", (lololol.. as if), going forward. I got caught, so I have an affliction. Please, give us credit for being able to see behind the curtain Oh Great and powerful OZ......

"Integrity" would be helping Sorsby through his addiction after revoking his eligibility.
100% this!! If addiction is a factor it shouldn’t absolve him from the consequences of his actions ….ie being an alcoholic doesn’t mean you’re not getting a OWI if you’re caught driving drunk……they include getting mandatory treatment as part of the sentencing ordinarily

Paraphrasing:

"Since he has a clinically diagnosed addiction he doesn't need to take responsibility for wrongful actions related to his addiction."

What a joke
The amount of times this dude mentioned or alluded to Sorsby’s supposed addiction and recovery process, makes it pretty clear how Texas Tech is going to frame this in response to criticism. I would guess pretty much everybody besides TT fans see through it, but will the outrage reach a level where TT or the Big 12 be forced to do something?

I absolutely don't know how... If this was Iowa doing this, I would be f'in furious allowing this to happen!
Mid 2023 I threw all my Iowa gear in a bag and put it in my closet, and didn’t bring them out or watch games until Brian was fired. I only had to wait 2 weeks until he was “not renewed”, but I would have no problem dropping Iowa like a box of rocks over something like this.

An alcoholic should never become a bartender. Part of healing from addiction is placing accountability hand in hand with the recovery process. He will never heal without integrating consequences with his process of recovery. Texas tech must hate this young man if they want to put him in a situation where his addiction is confronted with endless relapse triggers.

Not sure, but you know damn well the partisan Mississippi North Supreme Court will/would throw any lawsuit out to protect Brenna Bird.

If these student sections and fan groups aren’t showering Texas Tech with singles as they enter the field, something is wrong. Opposing teams should also have videos of their football players visiting local casino sportsbooks before they play Texas Tech and have them place all types of bets on the game. It should be posted on all their official social medias.

I like it. Sometimes you just have to steer into the skid. If 'amatuer' college athletics are going to be senseless, then let's take it to the max. I hope Tech continues to give a giant middle finger to everyone. Who knows, maybe that level of insanity will be the catalyst to bring some level of governance back to college athletics.

Praying that this young student athlete can overcome this disease.
Oh yah. Thoughts and prayers for sure. It's so sad when a young person is the victim of such a debilitating disease.

But on a serious note, I most sincerely hope that Sorsby gets everything he so richly deserves . . . everything.

Hey, it's Texas Tech. They're just following their dictator's MAGA playbook. Do whatever the hell ya want, and make up bullshitt in a ludicrous attempt to explain the inexplicable. Buy some judge, and lie and cheat, and then lie and cheat some more. And just keep on doin' it and dare anyone to stop you.

What would the NFL do to a player who did the same thing?
Calvin Ridley got a 1 year suspension for betting on the Falcons. He had taken a leave of absence from the team though due to a mental health crisis previously, so he was not an active roster member.

If an active player wagered on their team I suspect it would be a lifetime suspension.

I did the same thing except it was much earlier in the year and instead of the closet, mine went into the outdoor trashcan to never return. Probably an irrational decision but I was irrational at the time from watching that **** show of an offense that hadn't improved for years.

Does TT even have the right to not play him or would they also be liable? Not saying they have any intention of not playing him if eligible, but it definitely puts them in a difficult position.
