I think US strategy may be to be aggressive to start the game with Dest and Jedi well forward and see if we can get a goal.

then with a lead we could switch to a 4-man backline or keep the 3 but really have Dest and Jedi stay home unless a counter attack

1 goal may be enough in the group phase but against better teams we likely need more than 1 goal to win

It’s tough though, because getting them forward leaves Ream and Freeman on an island to defend 1v1 in space, and it’s not their strength. Ream will get eaten alive if we’re pushing forward hard against a top team.
Love Ream, but he will definitely cost us at some point. Not his fault we don't have better. I've been OK with Freeman back there, like him better outside though.

What’s the advantage of starting US national team games at times other than prime time?

There was a way to do this that was not going to be terribly disruptive.
They are prime time in the markets they are in. No one on the west coast or LA wants a 4:00 game so people on the east coast can get to bed on time.

Our games better sell out! Keep seeing adds with tickets available which is embarrassing!

At least 15M-20M live within driving distance - I know tickets are expensive but still
Based on an NPR article dated Monday, there were only about 130 tickets left available for the opener against Paraguay, and the cheapest was $1120. Tickets are available on the secondary market for less than that. As long as that is true, the games will be never sell out, because the tickets are overpriced relative to demand. We RU fans should know that better than anyone.

SeatGeek has more than 1,000 listings for the game, and many listings are for entire rows. Many thousands of tickets available for this one.

If the stadium is not full Friday it’s a total embarrassment regardless of price. In a country of 330M it just needs to be full.
100% agree.

The 1994 World Cup averaged 68,991 per game and stadiums were filled to 96% of capacity.

That was when the US had 260 million people, few knew anything about the sport, and the US team was made up mostly of amateurs. The captain was Tony Meola whose highest level of soccer was playing 2 games in the third tier of English football.

Fast forward to 2026 - the US has 330 million, plus another 140 million in Mexico and 40 million in Canada, the MLS is a top 10 league by many measures, and the US team is made up of professionals whose development benefited from high levels of training and competition. The captain is Tim Ream who played nearly 400 professional games in England, most of of them in the Premiership.

The tournament has 6 million tickets to sell and the organizers must accept the fact that the clearing price for most of these tickets is $100 or less and in some games $10 or less.

I'd say it's an embarrassment for FIFA to set tickets at those prices...I'm a huge soccer fan and am only planning on going to one game this summer due to FIFA greed (and turn down all of my ticket options when I was up for the LA2028 Olympics because again, I'm not giving in to greed). If FIFA is gonna just stick with the $2k+ priced tickets for a Group Stage game against a non-marquee opponent and let them go unsold, that's on them.

It will be sold out. Can't wait, especially after how good we looked against Germany - if we can duplicate that effort, we'll easily get out of the group and could maybe do a little damage beyond that...

agree they are jerks but don’t you think any other host nation would sell out even at these prices?
FINAL WARNING - next one to post something political is banned.
did you see anything political after your last warning or this is just a reminder?

I think they’d be unsold too…have you seen how crazy these prices compare to prior World Cups? And how much food/drink cost in our stadiums compared to theirs? There is extreme price gouging here compared to elsewhere.

The most expensive ticket for the 2022 World Cup final had a cheaper face value than many of the unsold tickets to USA-Paraguay.

Agreed, no one has ever had prices this sky high for group stage games. These are usually what you would see for the best seats at the finals.

Little OT but did anyone catch the craziness that unfolded during the USWNT game against Brazil last night?

15 YCs and 8 RCs.
I did. Just to clarify, most of the red cards were either shown to members of the Brazil coaching staff, or to players after the game was over. Only two red cards were issued to on-field players during the match, and both of those came in stoppage time.

Brazil lost it's poise, both coaches and players. That 2nd player red card should be multiple games for deliberate contact to the head with the elbow. The head coach was acting like a clown too.

Is it possible to ban a player for multiple games for a red card issued in a friendly?

Mexico 1-0, South Africa playing out the back, unwise pass from goalie put them under pressure and they concede.
