The NYC-centered national media is acting like this year’s NBA finals is bigger than any to ever come before it simply because there’s a New York team in it.

Yes, it is annoying. I actually quite like the players on this Knicks team, and would normally cheer for them. But I find myself wanting them to lose only because of the obnoxious New York thing.

I want all Cats to do well, but between the the celebrity’s, hot dogs and crybabies I don’t watch the NBA anymore and haven’t for 30 years. Despite growing up watching and loving it. There is to much greed and no discipline and the bad thing about it is the college game is getting to be just like it.

I dont think the first paragraph is true at all. With the exception of the fake celebs who are just jumping on the bandwagon. For Knicks fans, and celebs like Stiller, Tracy Morgan, etc.. they are just amped up to see the Knicks finally looking like they could win a title. Its more so the drought of success than anyone thinking this is a bigger NBA finals than any other.

Hard disagree. They have to show something during timeouts. And it’s for like a couple of seconds a game. You just want to complain about something.

This Knicks team is awesome and deserves all of the love they’re getting. Hard working, disrespected by most everyone and a real damn team. Everyone should be celebrating that this is even still possible. You listen to the Spurs after their losses and they sound like entitled bitches. It’s been a long time since I felt like there was a pro squad worth rooting for. This Knicks squad is that.

Yup. It's the social media age. Everyone has to have a hot take on everything and people have to find something to complain about as you said.

It's NYC, it's the Knicks. They have celebrity fans and a lot of them have been on board for decades. Show me a producer angrily saying not to show one of them before the game for 3 seconds and I'll show you a fired producer lol.

I am a Dallas Mavericks fan, so I have no dog un the hunt. Really rooting for KAT, Fox, and Keldon Johnson more than anything. That said, I work with a Knicks fan who is super annoying and who I feel personifies most of their fanbase. Do like the NYK squad and how they play though. That said, Let's Go Spurs (gulp)!

As for the spurs fan that got beat up, here's my unprovoked take on this:

Dont go into the opponents arena, unless you plan on not only being on your best behavior, but also likely taking some ridicule. Which to me is just a lose/lose situation. That spurs fan walked past 10,000 Knicks fans. Some of them are going to say sh*t.. if you respond back, then more might say ****. If you keep going it might escalate. And in this whole scenario, you're severely outnumbered.

So unless you want to just sit there and take a beating from the opposing fans, I dont see how its worth it. Id never go watch Kentucky play @Duke. Not even for great seats for free. Because im putting myself in a no-win situation.

This is why I’ll never go to another game against UofL ever again. I’m way too old and good looking for jail.

Back in the 1900s, as the kids are calling it, before 24/7 internet in your pocket and social media, the celebrity sightings at these events was kind of cool. It’ll be hard for a young person to believe, but seeing Jack Nicholson court side at a Lakers playoff/finals game was really cool. These things added to the league’s popularity. It was smart marketing.

Now it’s not cool. Now it’s entirely played out. I’d be stoked if I didn’t see Timothée Chalmet. If anything, it’s just more of the boring rehash that has permeated every facet of popular culture.

You’re just pissed you’ve got Ben Affleck as your lone celebrity fan.

Ha exactly. Heck ive been to neutral site games and got into it with fans who were looking for trouble. One that comes to mind was UK playing Maryland at MSG (or maybe the Barclays?), back in like 2014 or something.

I cant sit there for 2 hours and not talk back, and then all 50 opposing fans around me get annoyed hearing what I say. You're just asking for trouble. So when your team loses, you gotta take a lot of heat. And if they win, you cant celebrate too much or youre gonna catch trouble, which i bet is exactly what happened to that spurs fan.

The celebrities at court side only annoy me if it’s obvious they’re just bandwagon fans. Tracy Morgan, Ben Stiller and Spike Lee have been seen at Knicks games for years, even during bad years.
BTW, I have never seen a good movie starring Timothee Chalamet.

Was a novelty back in the day when you didn't see these people outside of a movie, now with the internet and social media, who cares.

I'm with you. Entirely overrated. I don't understand the hype at all.

It has NOT been that long since there was a team like that. In fact, not even one full year.

Because everything you just said also exactly describes last year’s Pacers (who likely would’ve won the title if Halliburton hadn’t blown out his Achilles in Game 7). A team “disrespected by everyone” without any top tier superstars that nonetheless made a remarkable run because they were such a “hardworking” “real damn team” with great chemistry. Same thing.

But you didn’t hear about it nearly as much from the national media because that was a small market middle America team, whereas this is NYC’s team.

Well thats kind of just how it works with small market vs big market teams.

Also, we can apply the same to the Knicks, who two years ago, against the Pacers in 2024 playoffs no less. Brunson broken hand game 7, already without Randle, OG injured, Mitch Robinson injured. Still took Indiana to game 7. I'm not sure if the Knciks win the title that year, but they certainly were down like 5 of their 8 best players by their final game.

Did you care about Injuries affecting the outcome then?

Many Spurs fans got attacked, most unprovoked.

There is no excuse to assault people for their fandom. Heckling, etc isn't the issue here.

You have absolutely zero evidence to back that up lol.

If you go into an opponents arena, and you cheer for your team, you're going to hear it from the opposing fans.. you choose what to do from there.

And btw, this is at nearly every stadium and arena across the world. NFL games, Basketball games, heck even Soccer games in 3rd would countries you might get stabbed for being with the wrong team.

I live in Indiana so can’t judge it from the outside but I’ve heard plenty about them. So much, in fact, that they seem like under achievers at this point to be honest.

There are literal videos lmao. In fact, there is one with NYPD protecting a group of Spurs fans from degenerate Knicks fans. I saw a video of some Spurs fan trying to walk away - clearly not trying to fight and someone was trying to set his hair on fire with a lighter.

Knicks fans cannot act like they've been there because they haven't been there in decades.
