We have had no one in the last 20 years worthy of a big personality. And I don't know why you think that is acceptable. Saban was giving out hellcats and brown bags, but he wasn't allowing anything besides his narrative.

You are not allowed a personality, until you have dgaf money. Bo was a clown that was so ego driven he allowed 1 guy to rush for 408 yards. STFU. For real. Stfu.

Every team has a "best player" you can be the worst team and you still have a best player.

If you think Saban did not treat certain players differently, I don't know what to tell you.

I mean, parents do not treat all their kids 100% the same and they LOVE all their kids.

This is not hard to grasp.
Saban benched his seasons starting qb at halftime in the natty for a freshman.

You want to equate a top 5 Alabama roster with a bowl eligible 7-6 Nebraska team? You overlook the fact that he got benched for a future NFL QB #1 dual threat QB in his recruiting class and the supporting cast around him had NFL pedigree everywhere. The fact that some “elite“ qb’s are a giant pain in the *** isn’t exactly breaking news man. Tons of NFL teams with paid scouts shell out serious money for “elite” guys that never pan out exactly like Dylan. To some extent some teams/organizations take the risk.
For argument sake we should have started TJ or Grand-dad because those guys can show up to a presser on time? That sounds ridiculous because it is.
I‘m guessing that if Dylan the diva won vs USC and finished .500 against Ped State and Iowa that this narrative wouldn’t surface anyway. We’ll never know.
Rhule chased two talented guys in Sims and Raiola with different skill sets and missed. Will he miss with Colandrea/TJ/Trae is the real question.
I for one am tired of narrative as a fan. It’s about results. Here’s to better results this year

I was making the point that Saban held people accountable. Even his starting QB.

You are correct it’s about results. My OP was saying that the very behaviors Rhule has propped up to build the program back he didn’t enforce with the face of the program. That’s a problem.

Because Rhule if full of it. That has been the point.

The weird idea that every player is treated exactly the same all the time is just odd.

What if your two best QB's are exactly the same? One is still going to be the starter...even though the coach "treats everyone exactly the same 100% of the time" he is still going to pick one that he likes more.

I wonder why he didn't start the backup...since he was better.

Reading this thread makes my head hurt. Nebraska coaches have made historical mistakes by making (what appears to be) promises and special treatment for players instead of having true competition.

- Sam Keller was given massive special privileges by Callahan. Created tension and division on the team. The Ganz legend is even larger because of what he could have done if given more of a chance. Favortism 101.
- A. Martinez - special treatment from Frost. Unbelievable how detrimental this was to the team and QB recruiting
- Taylor Martinez - Bo was loyal to a fault. This situation was not nearly as bad as the prior two mentioned, but it still led to team conflict and transfers. Bo did not promise Taylor things as far as I know - He seemed to truly believe the job was TMarts. Some will argue with this one - and that's okay.
- Dylan Raiola - Rhule sold his soul to adapt almost everything imaginable for this family and their demands

Compare this to 2 of the greatest coaches of all-time:

1. Saban makes a BOLD move, benches Jalen Hurts at halftime for freshman Tua. Feelings be damned. Title won.
2. Tom puts Brook in to change things up. Later puts Tommie back in to win his first NC. Team first, not feelings.

Big difference here on how elite coaches demand the best players to be on the field and do not promise the world to spoiled kids. And this thread doesn't include the non-QB's who seem to have been given special treatment.
