Wasn't sold on him after his first three years, but man has he done great things the past three. Forbes stepped into a very similar position as Hubert -- strong program/brand that was still competitive but with flagging results relative to expectations (Fox only made two Supers and one CWS in his final six non-COVID years). Unlike Hubert, Forbes has been able to thrive in the new Portal/NIL era through extremely strong retention and thoughtful roster construction.

It's rare, or at least feels rare, that a legacy assistant can truly make his predecessor's program his own, build on its strengths, and address its shortcomings to meaningfully improve results. We've got a great one in Forbes; thrilled he's sticking around.

Did you read what you actually wrote?? Fox only made 2 supers and one CWS in his last 6 years like the program was in the dumps. Didn’t think we had fans who thought our program was in bad shape at any point in the last 20 years. Getting to supers and the CWS is hard… ask the 8 teams who played in the CWS last year and didn’t even make supers this year. Agree with all the praise for Forbes, and I think it’s been deserved from day 1… but Fox was doing just fine and I didn’t want him to retire at all.

Did you read what I wrote...? Saying a program is "still competitive but with flagging results relative to expectations" is not at all the same as saying the program is in the dumps.

You're correct, Fox was doing just fine, but he wasn't excelling. We missed the NCAAT twice in that six-year stretch and made it to Omaha once. In Fox's entire tenure, we only missed the tournament three times (2001, 2015, 2016). In the prior six years, we made it to Omaha four times (and were in the championship series against OSU each of the two years before that). When you go from making the CWS at a rate of 75% to a rate of 17%, I think it's fair to say your results are flagging.

The Davis/Forbes/NIL comparison is apples to oranges, no disrespect to you or fruit intended.

There is also a strong subset of folks who are Diamond Heels fans first, over the other sports teams at Carolina. Forbes has done a magnificent job of making those folks feel valued and seen, not unlike Dean Smith’s original devotion to the early hoops supporters. They’re not as big in numbers as football and basketball, but they’re every bit as loyal if not more.

He also has some of the heaviest hitters in his corner too. The same guys that stroke huge checks for basketball and football. That helps a lot.

All this makes you wonder how involved a very influential alumni in the sports brand category, who also has a strong affinity for baseball, is with this situation.

"Oh my, an RC sighting on the boards…. Where ya been bud?!?"

Lol! I'm afraid that I've become more of a lurker than a contributor, but rest assured that I'm hanging around; passion and enthusiasm for Carolina Baseball securely intact!

To quote one of our favorite coaches from another sport: "Let's just go win the whole dadgum thing!!"

I know they proposed some additions to the stadium that the University shut down years back when Field Hockey was being built. Would love to see the Bosh grow into what the program deserves! Sounds like a great story for @GregBarnes to find out if increased stadium capacity is on the table as part of the new commitment by the University!
