How do you think the U.S. gets out of this mess in Iran?

On what terms and in what fashion? IMHO, this situation is pretty fluid and there are a variety of possibilities. I think we cannot simply declare victory and leave, not with the Strait of Hormuz essentially still in the control of the Iranians. We need some kind of treaty in place before we withdraw.

Unless we are going to invest a whole lot more time and money in bombing Iran and destroying Iranian infrastructure, we are not likely going to succeed in getting Iran to settle on the kind of terms Trump wants. As the Fall elections draw closer, I think Trump will be under significant,. and increasing, pressure to get out of Iran and get some kind of deal that helps stabilize world crude oil and LNG prices. He should just try to get the best deal he can, and work toward that as quickly as possible.

It seems obvious that we HAVE to have the Strait of Hormuz opened with no (or very minimal) Iranian tolls, if only to stabilize the supply, and price, of crude oil, LNG, fertilizer, etc. The economic pressure that a closed Strait of Hormuz puts on Trump is certainly more leverage than promises from Iran about its future nuclear weapons development, which promises are essentially meaningless without some viable method of verifying things on (and under) the ground in Iran. So I think that Trump (if he has any sense or gets any decent advice from his subordinates), decides to make do with some vague and largely meaningless representations from Iran as to its agreement "never to pursue nuclear weapons."

I also hope that the U.S. does not have to invest much money in rebuilding Iranian infrastructure, whether we destroyed it or not. If we do end up committing significant resources to this, Trump will open himself up to charges that he is giving up a lot more than the "pallet of cash" (i.e., frozen Iranian assets) Obama ended up giving back to Iran when THAT treaty was signed.

How/when do you see the U.S. getting out of Iran?

What I really want to know is, WTF/HTF/WTF/ATF is stopping us from taking the straight of hormuz?

I do not trust any of the reporting that I’ve heard on this because if things were as bad as some say, it’d be over already, and if things were as good as others say, it’d be over already. The only thing that anyone not directly involved in this knows for a fact is that whatever is reported is a lie.

But back to my question, what am I missing that is preventing us from just slapping iran around like a $2 ***** and renaming it the Trump Straight?

the iranians are possibly hoping to hold out and drag this out till november somehow via a combination of negotiations ceasefires and taking potshots. so we have another 5 months of this nonsense which i think many are tuning out anyway

The rise of drones and Iran having a good drone and missile program. They are cheap to send flocks of them our way and expensive for us to shoot them down. We fell behind much of the world in modern warfare because our MIC make sure steady streams of money were just moving to the entrenched defense corporations and their traditional weapons.

It's the same reason that Russia hasn't been able to just brute force takeover Ukraine.

Drones are easily defeated with just a few bucks worth of chicken wire, maybe a few thousand bucks if you had to setup your own Aluminum Dome in country. Sounds like our military is lacking in tactical imagination.

We built a scope that activily targets drones for an M4 platform. .556 are 60c a round. Russia may have issues with thier **** working but we dont, our problem is half our country is going to call the inevitable genocide.

Iran wants to charge an extra $1 per barrel of oil. If we let them charge the toll it isn’t the end of the world.

I say we just leave and tell the world that we need a unified boycott of Iran if they don’t allow free passage. Make China the bad guy internationally if they won’t stop buying Iranian oil.

Like we did in Iraq? Afghanistan? Vietnam? How many troops? For how long? How much does it cost us to supply Asia with oil?

Damn we should have put those in our bases around the area before they hit us over 200 times. Bad timing I guess.

We are moving onto chicken wire thunderdome.

No, the opposite actually.
I have no idea what that means. We had 170,000 troops in Iraq. We had another 100,000 in Afghanistan. Iran has a larger population than both of them and while they hate the ayatollah, they hate the US more. And we earned it.

So what? We take Trump's plan? Annihilate a civilization? “A whole civilization will die... never to be brought back again.” Sure, we'll do that and just walk away and face no consequences.

Good luck with that.

Chicken wire will stop a single drone, not multiple cheap drones.

Drones are a much tougher problem than anyone anticipated.

Thank you for showing exactly how ignorant you are. You literally have no clue of the ME, or the military, tubby. Go chase another ambulance. Oh, wait, you can't, you're too out of shape.

Captain Houseboat: If it was anyone else I was responding to, I would say "Give me some detail as to how you think I was mistaken in my post, which did not get into specific military tactics, operations or procedure." But I am responding to you, and you have roughly the same intelligence as the equines with whom you practice your bestiality, so I am just going to save you further embarrassment and leave you alone in your ignorance.

When is Trump going to prison you loser. Tell the board how many years you've predicted this an have been wrong. Answer the question. Coward. Just once, have an ounce of honesty. I bet you can't respond truthfully. Hell, I know you can't.

Oh, yeah. The horses I work on are not only far more honest than you, they're exponentially smarter. They're not liars and racists like you. Get lost loser. You have nothing, and you never have.
