GA batter that tied the score in the ninth who reached base on a 4 pitch walk to lead off the inning. Someone sent me a pitch grid that indicated that all four pitches were actually in the strike zone. Anyone else seen that? Is this legit? Just curious.
I have not but that's an AB that could have easily gone the other way. That said, ump seemed pretty consistent on the zone being tight.GA batter that tied the score in the ninth who reached base on a 4 pitch walk to lead off the inning. Could explain all of the home runs. Either way, for a long time I have been firmly in favor of relieving the umpires of calling taken pitches. No challenges. The ABS system calls em all. I'd like to see check swings eligible for challenge also.I have not but that's an AB that could have easily gone the other way. That said, ump seemed pretty consistent on the zone being tight.
Agree. The strikezone should not be a guessing game. Automated ball and strikes needs to happen for all pitches.Could explain all of the home runs. Either way, for a long time I have been firmly in favor of relieving the umpires of calling taken pitches. No challenges. The ABS system calls em all.
I second check swings. Or at least make them booth review like foul/fair calls. That one yesterday had me punching air.Could explain all of the home runs. I also understand the desire to keep baseball “pure” but the fact that a mob boss rigged a World Series being a factual thing should all but throw that argument out of the window. Not all technology is the same as the iPad spin to ask for a tipThe NCAA & all theconferences and/or the media should publish Trackman/ABS/Hawkeye data following every game just like the players stats are published by the media to grade the umpires. This should be done in football & basketball also where applicable. There is way too much at stake in these sporting events for these incompetent officials to be deciding winners/losers.
The strike zone was a joke in both games. I am not sure that it favored either team overall.
OK but I fail to see how removing a huge element of human error out of the game is disrupting 'purity'. Seems to me its the other way around.I also understand the desire to keep baseball “pure” but the fact that a mob boss rigged a World Series being a factual thing should all but throw that argument out of the window. Woodson was a smidge late on his swing or he wins it with a walk off homer in B9. That stung. That one hurt, but worse than that, we failed to get our first batter on base in B9. Then they got theirs on in T10. It was pretty much over after that.
I thought he was inconsistent all game. He gave Georgia’s starter way too much leeway outside that our pitchers never got. Once their starter left it got better but that at bat in particular was horrendous. How in the world do you keep your cool after an at bat like that? Pitzer was visibly frustrated and it affected us more than putting the lead guy on.I have not but that's an AB that could have easily gone the other way. That said, ump seemed pretty consistent on the zone being tight.

You can see the strike zone data on ESPN's gamecast by clicking on the arrow next to the batter's name.GA batter that tied the score in the ninth who reached base on a 4 pitch walk to lead off the inning. I'm not one who usually blames the umps, but that home plate ump yesterday screwed us all over the place from Parker's called 3rd strike to several against Ace to all four pitches against ishikawa that the OP posted about.I have not but that's an AB that could have easily gone the other way. That said, ump seemed pretty consistent on the zone being tight.

Apparently Unless Georgia is pitching……….l don’t care what kind of strike zone they have as long as they keep it the same for both teams for the whole ball game. Far too often you see strike zones that evolve over the course of the game and you see strike zones expand for one team and shrink for the other. Happens all the time, from little league on up. Just be consistent. Is that too much to ask?The walk to Branch prior to the Hudson HR in the 3rd - all four balls would have been called strikes by ABS
Branch HR in the 7th on a full count - 2 of the 3 balls would have been called strikes by ABS
Ishikawa 4 pitch walk in the 9th - all four pitches would have been called strikes by ABS
Hudson single in the 9th to drive in Ishikawa on a 1-2 - the one ball would have been called a strike by ABS
You could do this crap all day. Every umpire allegedly has their own strike zone & almost all of them are smaller than the ABS
Where are you getting your ABS stats? The walk to Branch prior to the Hudson HR in the 3rd - all four balls would have been called strikes by ABS

That's not ABS though, that's just where the ESPN app placed the pitch location. If you go by ESPN there weren't any balls pitched in the game.Remember this sequence from Saturday? Bottom of the 4th with 2 outs. That wasn’t even a borderline strike, whole damn ball was in the strike zone.

Yeah, that's not ABScollege baseball score on espn mobile app
click on the game then play by play then click on any play by play item to see the data for each at bat
Let me guess. You are maybe 21-22?Baseball umpires behind the plate are just awful. They are too old, and the game has passed them by. If a player can’t play at the highest level after 42 or so, then neither should umpires. They are obsolete.
No, but what’s that got to do with anything?Let me guess. You are maybe 21-22?
You think a 40 year old ump is over the hillNo, but what’s that got to do with anything?
I fail to see where I said it would make it not “pure.” I just know how much some folks hate change of any kind at all and was saying that this particular thing needed to happen whether they liked it or not.OK but I fail to see how removing a huge element of human error out of the game is disrupting 'purity'. Seems to me it’s the other way around.
I fully agree and it did in fact favor GA in the end when we had 2 outs and 2 strikes I believe could be wrong but pretty sure it was 2. Anyways I was in disbelief it was two strikes you couldn’t throw any better that led to a 2 run home run with them taking the lead back instead of the hitter GA hitter getting rung up two times same location perfectly executed pitch. That should have been the end of the inning I’m pretty certain it was 2 outs 2 strikes. Instead the umpire out did himself on those horrendous calls leading to him likely effecting the outcome of the game. I’ll go back and see just exactly when it was but if it wasn’t that last home run they hit it was the one before that they hit. Either way game changing. I believe they went from down 1 to up 2. I’ve forgotten it made me so mad and with all the bs but someone on here will know or correct me.The NCAA & all the conferences and/or the media should publish Trackman/ABS/Hawkeye data following every game just like the players stats are published by the media to grade the umpires.
