Time to assign Coach O'Connor a letter grade

I’d say B+…. No doubt he stacked a competitive lineup… but in hindsight, probably could have used some of that NIL money on more experienced bullpen.

But he’s who I thought he was, he’s gonna always have a competitive team. I don’t recall any really dumb **** from him. It’s clear the team responds to him and plays hard. I fully expected today to be a blowout and it looked for awhile like it was going to be.

B+. Could've been a little better but could've been A WHOLE LOT worse. Not too shabby for a first year coach.

No Grade, we finished about where we belonged. I like being competitive, and we achieved that.
Seemed like there was a lot of movement, or jerking around with lineups, until later in the season.
Can't keep everybody happy, play to win.
He is a keeper.

This is hard because our bullpen portal haul is what screwed us. The problem is that Oak was hired and trying to get moved during the portal season. We were grabbing kids that Parker was familiar with and was hoping to fix them and taking some from lower lever conferences, hoping they would translate. It wasn’t a total miss but it was bad enough to derail us. Losing Kirk and Foster not being a gamer compounded things. Everyone found out just how important the whole pitching staff is, not just starters. There is a good chance that if we had been matched up with anyone but GA or TX, we make it to Omaha. I give Oak an A-

B+. This was a transitional year. Not quite as good as I expected but real close. If we’d gotten a better draw could have easily been a CWS year. But just couldn’t quite get it done vs the elite teams. To put it into perspective, since the tournament expanded to 64 in 1999 we’ve won 11 regionals including this year & been to 5 CWS. I expect when we look back 10 years from now O’Connor will be significantly above those historical averages in both categories.

B+ for me. We hosted and won our Regional, that’s probably the most simple goal we have for every season and we accomplished that. Got to our first Super since 2021, made clear and obvious progress as a program relative to the last few years.

We stayed true to who we were all year, for all the good and bad that comes with that. We won three games in Oxford, handled a manageable Regional, and didn’t beat the best teams on our schedule. That trend started in the UCLA game in Arlington and pretty much held true until our season ended. We were really good, but not good enough on the mound specifically to be elite.

It’s unfortunate that we got the 14 seed and were paired with Georgia. If we were 15 or 16 we’d have hosted a Super with the way other results went. Kinda frustrating to watch a 30 loss Troy team that we handled in a midweek game get to host a Super against Little Rock that sent them to Omaha, while we had the misfortune of seeing Georgia again. I’m not saying re-do the tourney format, just saying that‘a awful luck on our part.

Kind of disappointing that no one seems to take this in account. Oak’s season was on par or better than most others first season recently. Johnson at LSU, Schloss at Texas, Johnson at Georgia, the guy at bama, hell the guy at A&M took over a team that basically returned the national runner up and they fell apart.

O’Conner took over a team that had its coach fired midseason the year before and I think if we played any of the other 15 teams in a super, we win. It was a good season. Certainly a season that needs to be improved on but some guys on here are just unrealistic.

B, no stones to win the games late in the season to get a better draw.

I’ll take it bc Lemonis sucked *** and should have been fired in 2023.

B+. Year one and we hosted the regional, swept it and made the supers. If you told me that at the start of the season I would have taken that and been giddy after what Lemonis had done since the natty.

B+. Pitching staff wasn’t good enough for Super Regional host which cost us the season.

They should be elite next year though. Build around Parker on offense. We’re a preseason Top 10ish team next year.

I’m excited.

B+ we were competitive made a super regional and it’s year one for him. He’s no fool he knows what is needed and I expect he will fix the bullpen and we’ll continue to improve
