I know some people think places like Banner are so pretty and peaceful...but man there is nothing out there at all.
I couldn’t live there, but the Panhandle does have some very underrated scenery, hiking trails, etc.

I was in Harrisburg once and ate at the Quonset Cafe. It was a metal quonset hut with windows cut into it - hence the name. Food was good - wonder if it’s still there?

That’s exactly why I love the panhandle over Omaha/Lincoln, but I get it’s not for everyone. Now, don’t take it as I’m anti-city. I really enjoyed living in Omaha. It’s a great city. But if I had to choose between the city and rural, I’m going with the quiet and solitude of rural.

I've started to Zillow rural NE more and more as I get closer to retirement. Maybe not as a full time reaidence, but something within 3-4ish hrs of Omaha would be ideal. Try it out, and go from there. If I can talk my wife into it i'd do it.

I Mean, that is what your house is for and it is why you have doors that you can close.

I live in West O and I go weeks without seeing my neighbors and even then it is just in passing.
We live out in the country, we love it some days there is wildlife such as deer turkeys which I hate but are neat to watch. Most days not much traffic on the county roads except during planting and harvesting. We can hear the trains daily. But it definitely has its drawbacks. Closest town with gas hardware groceries hospital is 12 miles away, the closest Walmart is 20 miles.now that Walmart delivers i can stay a hermit 😉but country life is far from perfect I’m happy you Like living in Lincoln i have a sister and brother in-law they love living in Lincoln she said it’s too quiet out here for her

True but I also like not hearing my neighbors, road noise, sirens, air traffic (though the sound of a helicopter gets my loins tingling). Or someone’s dog pooping on my yard.

For me, solitude outside > solitude inside.
