Football and basketball are asss.

A year ago we thought the baseball nightmare had ended. And even though we’re good, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Alabama and Georgia out do us. If one of them win, that’s one more SEC team that’s matched or passed us in ‘our’ sport.

Only Texas can save us from utter hell.

Pretty bad year, but we were passed in our sport a while ago. It was over the minute any other SEC schools decided to pay any attention to baseball. The first was LSU. The past 30 years have been us trying to reestablish ourselves, and well, you see how that’s been going.

Worst time ever to be a State fan? Come on, man.

Everyone on the board knows it can always get worse tomorrow, next week, or next year.

Well I’d like to contain the damage. The only ones who truly have an argument to be better are LSU, Texas, maybe Vandy and South Carolina. The rest are equal are below.

Ole Miss and Tennessee really stung. Ole Miss having 2 will be very bad.

And we really, REALLY don’t want Bama to wake up and have a legit baseball program.

I’m afraid Ole Miss has been better for 10 years or so despite our regular season dominance. I’m agreeing with you. Contain the damage. And yes, Texas coming in put us at a distant third at best. Middle of the pack at worst.

We had stolen the momentum from Ole Miss in the 2010s but they punched back for sure.

Today was a kick in the gonads. Should have won, and OM made it worse. There is only one way to go from here. Win tomorrow and Monday, make it to the championship and beat OM in the finals. Utter euphoria. Book it 📕

We just played a legendary game yesterday in a super regional against a team who's going to be national Champs. Is this a serious post? C'mon man. Even you are better than this.

If you're talking wins and losses, the late 80s were probably the worse. However I assume you mean with nil, the expanded conference etc...

yeah I was thinking about footballs sec record the last 3 years. Basketball hasn't had a winning record in the sec in a few years. Sec baseball is absolutely the cream of the crop in ncaa baseball.... so we have to be really really good every year to win in conference ... so get use to .500 ball.

Football and basketball... I'm not even thinking about it. Baseball I wonder how truly easy it is for State to recruit.

Everyone will say but but but ... the stadium. Yeah well, you still have to convince the best baseball players in the nation to come to Mississippi. (Which Mississippi is fine to me, but convince a Florida or Texas or California kid of that.). So I wonder how easy it is to get who we want in baseball as well??? With nil being a thing now, the other schools will throw cash around too. My point is I beleive NIL will level any facilities advantage we had in baseball recruiting.

As long as Brian O’Connor is our baseball coach I won’t worry about it. Also winner of the Athens and Austin Supers as well as Alabama and North Carolina if they get through will be the 4 favorites in Omaha

Fact:

Since 2021, there really hasn’t been much to hold our collective heads high about in any sport. We all have grown accustomed to shrugging and mumbling “Wait until next season!” or “Well, (insert the next upcoming sport’s season) can’t get here soon enough!”

IMO we are losing ground on all fronts to the rest of the SEC (academics, athletics etc, etc) and the Mississippi State "brand" desperately needs a total makeover that has to start at the top . Anything less is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic .

I was talking with a young man yesterday who was an All-American last year, All-Conference this year, and will likely be a Top 4-5 round draft pick. He would have been drafted last year, but he pulled his name and came back for another season.

He's played against both us and Ole Miss this year, and he said we have a really good baseball team / program. Unfortunately, he said the exact same thing about Ole Miss.

We've had a good year in baseball and softball. We're in Ole Miss's shadow when you factor in all major sports. That sucks but it's true. Not sure how many on here wouldn't want to trade records over the past few years. Ole Miss shows the importance of hiring good coaches and money. Polk has a great record and elevated State baseball but it was largely when SEC baseball didn't matter to most schools. Bianco's a better coach but I wonder if he ever gets called legend as much as Polk does.

This is pretty rough, but there has been bad times before. The thing about this one, OM has elevated athletics (certainly football) and have stayed there. Usually it kind of ebbs and flows between State and OM, but they have left us. It is what it is, but it makes it tougher.
