About Tommy's statement that this was the best game he had personally seen pitched (under the circumstances) in his experience watching Carolina Baseball, I wholeheartedly agree. Faced with a "do or die" situation, Jason responded with his most exceptional among many outstanding collegiate efforts.
In my limited time of assiduously following Carolina Baseball (since 2001), I can only remember one game that is analogous: Robert Woodard--in Omaha in 2006--shutting out Clemson, 2 to 0, in an elimination game. That also was a 2-hitter, after a disappointing loss to Fullerton in the opener. I saw it in person, but was not surprised, because I had previously seen Woody pitch--with precision and with unusual composure, under extreme pressure in the Columbia Super Regional in 2004.
Woody's masterful performance propelled Carolina to beat Fullerton in the rematch and ultimately into the finals.
Now we need to build on Jason DeCaro's performance, lest it be forgotten.
