@GraceNugent Comparing today and McDuffie's performances against Arizona in last year's Super Regional -- any common threads or two different situations?
Today he got robbed of a strikeout to end the inning and then a guy made a great swing on a pitch. He suffers some from almost always coming in with 2+ guys on base.
A "no-brainer"? The obvious choices were leaving Lynch in or going to Glauber. That is a strange comment after an unconventional managerial decision blows up in our face.
He didn’t get robbed of a strikeout. There’s images going around of ESPN’s from people with big social audiences but that doesn’t use any official data. The Trackman in the building had them as balls.
We were more aggressive in the last 4 innings than in the first 5. And had to be because that guy was pounding the zone while Edwards wasn’t.
Like I said repeatedly. The 3-2 pitch was a ball. Sometimes the opponent is good too.

The story of game #1 is the early hook on Lynch & leaving Glauber on the bench at crunchtime.
Extremely questionable coaching in Game 1. Hanging sliders are the reason McDuffie hasn't had the year Glauber has. The idea that the hanging slider belted by the 8 hole hitter for a grand slam was a good pitch is laughable. McDuffie has earned the #2 reliever role on this club and has shown the ability to pitch back to back days. He's good & will bounce back. That does not excuse yesterday's coaching miscues.
On a brighter note, we have our ace (Glauber) ready for game 2 and they don't which may have been what Forbes was thinking about unfortunately.

IMO, the story of game #1 was not capitalizing on loading the bases with no outs in the 1st. If we score a couple of runs there, and end up eventually leading 7-1, the grand slam, if it even happens, doesn't give them the lead, and Glauber probably starts the 7th.
By my count, UNC had the leadoff man reach 4 times in the first 5 innings. Only reached once across the final 4 frames.
It’s beating a dead horse at this point but that was the ball game. Not opening up the flood gates in the first inning. Just win today and let home crowd take you home on Sunday.

In the Super Regional. It would be an absolutely awful situation.
Feel sick for the kid. Odds of a grand slam as opposed to any other batted ball situation are insane.
