I would like to try the paper plane, but it's hard to justify 55 for the amaro. Should go to Ken's speakeasy and see if they could make it.
I almost always have a bottle of Amaro on hand. You can make a ton of excellent cocktails with it. The Paper Plane is one of my go-to orders at a new bar. They are delicious when made well and fine when made poorly.

Currently, I have kind of an odd selection of liqueurs with which I have been working: St. Germain, Lillet Blanc, Fernet Branca, and St. George Absinthe.

I was just telling the wife the other day that one of my fav memories as a kid was when my grandpa or dad would make homemade ice cream. So I tossed out the idea of buying one, so we could make some for the kiddo this summer. Guessing that purchase will happen sooner than later.
the cuisinart electric is surprisingly good; don't make the kid churn it - it's not as fun as you remember it.

I use St. George in Sazaracs.

Yep, made sazeracs all summer one year and I still have 3/4 of a bottle of Pernod.
If you don't have an atomizer for the pernod, you should get one.

I'm having a saz tonight because of this post. Don't think I have any more lemons though, oh well.

Pool drinks need to be as simple as they are tasty.

I do an on the rocks pool Marg in the emptied out orange juice jugs because they are just the right size to make them in and it allows you to make a couple batches ahead of time and fit them nicely in the fridge.
A can/bottle of Corona
Half a can of frozen limeade
8ish oz water
Tequila and Contreau to taste (like at least 8 and 3 ounces - usually 12 and 5 if people aren't driving).

Put the water in last as it is the least important part.
That's similar to my Beerita recipe that's perfect for the pool/beach. Just sub Sprite for the water. Trust the process.

Beeritas
- 1 can frozen limeade
- 1.5 Cups Tequila
- 1 Cup Grand Marnier/Cointreau
- 1 can 7-up
- 2 bottles Lime Beer

I do not have one. I just make them 3 or 4 at a time and I pass the Pernod from glass to glass like a poor.

Our recipes are definitely cousins.
Mine actually looked a lot more like yours until I wanted to go with a little less sugar - which is why I am down to a half can of limeade.

Always know I’m at a good bar when they not only know how to make a Paper Plane but actually make a little plane on top

Late to this thread, but would love to jump in. Im no expert, but have a ~50 bottle collection and have been dabbling in bourbons for close to 2 decades. My taste is constantly evolving, and will never hesitate to rethink or challenge my taste, but I generally favor high proof, rye forward, and always search for value vs a name or over priced allocation.

Favorite readily available bourbon- OF 1920 Prohibition. Fantastic!

Regular rotation- Knob Creek, Eagle Rare, 4 Rose's SiB, Buffalo Trace, Russell Reserve 10, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, etc

Favorite value- WT101, Old Grandad 114, EW Bonded, Benchmark Full Proof, Rebel Yell 100

Going through a rotation of the following now and all are excellent.

Yellowstone 7yr Hand picked 119 proof
Knob Creek Eli Manning Pick (lol) 117
1792 Single Barrel Hand pick 98.6

Im with you, I usually use zero sugar 7up/Sprite to make them "healthy". And add a good handful of ice cubes to keep them chilled. Florida 8 months of the year is hot af.

I would actually go Scotch over bourbon 75% of the time if I am just sipping on a dram.

That said, gin and tonics are really my go to drink.

Though my brother and I did spend our last trip together drinking gin rickeys.
When they pour gin and tonics here in Spain. They have a huge globe glass filled with ice cubes. They bring the bottle and pour it in front of me. No measuring. They always give 5+ seconds. Love this. If only I could get standard likes instead of lemon or even cucumber.

Depending on the gin - more herby and floral vs Christmas tree - then cucumber is the way to go. OG Hendricks should only be served with cucumber.

Anyone had anything from Still Austin Whiskey Co? The store down the road from me just started carrying a couple of their offerings a few weeks ago. But as of last night they've now got the Cask Strength Rye and regular Cask Strength bourbon. I'm tempted to pick one up to try out this weekend.

Anyone had anything from Still Austin Whiskey Co? The store down the road from me just started carrying a couple of their offerings a few weeks ago. But as of last night they've now got the Cask Strength Rye and regular Cask Strength bourbon. I'm tempted to pick one up to try out this weekend.
I've had the cask strength bourbon on the recommendation of the salesman in Total Wine. It was better than I anticipated.

Saw Dan tyminski band last night. Shockingly he did not play whiskey drinking man. But psa for those in Iowa City - if you do not go to see him play on July 10, you are an idiot. Not a single song I could have done without. Guy on the dobro was unbelievable.

Uncorked an ECBP C925 last night. 129 proof. Very nice but beware. It doesn't drink 129.
We finally got that around here at a few stores a few months ago. The state bought so much A125 they couldn't get rid of it all. Most stores around here still have it. We never got B525 or any of the '26 releases. Pizzez me off because it's typically some of my favorite releases.

Classic Glencarin, viski Scotch glass, viski heavy footed whiskey glass, Aged&Ore?

I enjoy all. Find myself typically going Viski Scotch or A&O for a single pour. Glens if I'm doing a tasting flight.

Another budget bourbon that comes to mind is this stuff. Cheaper than hell, but not terrible. Even sippable on it's own.

The most high end bar in Chicago is probably the Aviary. They featured a drink some years back based on Mellow Corn. I always saw it as a bottom shelf type product, but had never had it so I was surprised to see it prominently featured in an Aviary cocktail.

No idea what it tastes like standalone, but it was a fantastic cocktail.
