I actually did just start working with a fantastic PT here in Davenport. She's an Iowa grad (Top 5 ranked PT school!) and a former national championship caliber swimmer at KU. She does all kinds of interesting techniques - just did fascia "scraping" this week - and it is making a big difference. Many of my stretches are also yoga-positions. I've got a pretty good routine going - and in addition to swimming - I've really increased my mobility and decreased the amount of time I have spasm issues. I just have to really stay at it.

My wife is doing dry needling for some issues and thinks it's working - I am thinking I need to try to add it in too.
Awesome, glad you go to a really good PT! It's definitely going to help you out and hopefully can get the spasm to go away completely. My wife (no pic) is a PT (UIndy) as well so she's done the scraping but isn't certified in dry needling. She's actually now a women's health PT which involves fingers in vjs and bholes of other women to release (no pics). Anyways, The scraping hurts like **** on the calf it leaves bruises but does really help. She also has those suction cups that Michael Phelps made famous and those help a bit too (on the calf not elsewhere), though the science behind that isn't as strong if I remember what my wife (no pic) was saying. It gets the blood flowing to the muscles which is the key thing, like when you do the stretches and squats and stuff. Good luck!

Much like chiro, there does seem to be some "withcraft"-like holistic medicine they try in PT, lol.

My lady also uses tuning forks (!) - that allegedly stimulate something or other in the muscles? S.hit, I don't know.

She's also a proponent (and of course, seller of) those new BEAMER devices that purport to do all sorts of wonderful things in terms of improving circulation. I remain somewhat sekptical.

All that said, the stuff she HAS done with me has objectively made me move better and have less pain, so I let her try whatever the hell she wants on me.

You'll heal faster in a walking boot with less chances of reinjury.
I've got a heavy stabilizer brace for the weekend and an appointment early next week with the orthopedic doctor to see about the boot. I just want to make it through this weekend's baseball tournament without one. I don't want the kid who caused it to feel too bad.

Yes.

A doctor just prescribed me Imitrex which I tried before with no success.

I started getting brutal migraines in 2001...twice a month. I went to several neurologists.

I tried taking many "rescue" meds both pills and in nasal spray form and nothing helped.

In 2011, I started taking fish oil with high DHA daily.

My migraines have dropped 95%!

Fish oil helps lower migraine pain.

I didn't have a migraine from October 2021 until last December and I've had 4 migraines since then.

A doctor I talked to said I should double my fish oil regimen so I will...I'm also going to eat sardines once a week.

She said sometimes supplements weaken because of supply issues so I probably need a higher dose and/or a new brand.

Twice a month and rescue meds don't work? Maybe it's just your period?

I met a guy down here in big lex who swears acupuncture (in nih study) cured him of alpha gal syndrome. Which would be a big deal if true

Where do you recommend?
Not Amazon. I've read a good amount of stories about people buying health supplements from what they thought were quality companies on Amazon, and the product not being what they thought they were buying. Or the quality not being great. Health supplements are something you should buy directly from a company, or in a store.

Thanks.

I also read that Amazon warehouses can get heated.

I hope you have made plans. You’re not gonna last long with those numbers. 😉

Some of you thinking numbers like BriGuy and Tigres posted are astoundingly high would be shocked at what kind of numbers half the people walking around post. Especially those in the African American community.
I hear you. Two things stopped surprising me when I retired two years ago and stepped up by training (that work thing took away from it).
1. How many people “appear” to be healthy but have crazy amounts of health issues.
2. The number of over-50 types (I’m soon to be 63) that have bodies that are already horribly worn out. Back/disc problems, ruined knees, shoulder replacements, hip replacements, etc.

Yeah there’s definitely some voodoo type stuff in PT too. I think most of the time you can look it up on google scholar and find pretty quickly if it’s real or fake. There’s also a lot of weird stuff with energy **** that’s completely off the chain. It’s like “I know you know what you are doing but this other stuff **** is getting out of line and weird!” I heard about the tuning fork thing too… sometimes I think there might be something to it, but it’s probably really minimal if anything. No idea what Beamer is but if it involves you buying a machine it’s probably not helpful otherwise the whole world would be on it.

Overall though PT’s are highly skilled and better most times than a doc just dropping some muscle relaxers. They can get you up and going plus on a good path

My BP isn't THAT high...I assume yours is 115/75 and your resting heart rate is 55? :)

150 million Americans have high blood pressure.
It was actually 95/70 71 the last time I had it checked at the doctor about a month ago which is why I started intentionally eating salty foods.

Yes 150 million Americans have high BP, but high BP can lead to increased migraine activity.

Just saying.
