That cast seems cursed (sorry I didn't mean that in a joking way. Nicholas Brendon died young, Michelle Trachtenberg died very young, three deaths in about a year) RIP

He was very good as Giles.

By all accounts Anthony Head was beloved by his mostly younger BtVS cast, which is uncommon.

Tough period for SMG, in a relatively short amount of time, she has lost one of her closest friends, Shannen Doherty; someone who was like a younger sister (Trachtenberg) who played one on the show; her longtime castmate, Brendon; and now Head, who was like a father to her.

Head was definitely one of the "good guys" (notwithstanding his villainous turn on Ted Lasso); a much needed counter and balance to what the young cast had to deal with in series creator, Joss Whedon.
