Lemonis won a national championship in year 3. O’Connor has a great chance to do this in year 1.

Not this year, but in the next 10 years, I expect we'll pick up a couple CWS Championships. I kind of think this is UGA's year to add their 2nd.

O'Connor will definitely outperform Lemonis but I couch that in consistency of producing really good teams consistently, not how many NCs he wins. A LOT has to go right for a coach to win a NC. By your standard Lemonis has outperformed every other coach that has ever coached at MSU in any sport all because he won the only NC. Even outperformed Polk. I guess I'm not looking at it that way.

That seems fair. There can be many metrics in which a person can “outperform” another. I guess in terms of national championships. MSU has the greatest fans and facility the sport has to offer. That’s our standard at this point in time. I voted 2. I think they can ABSOLUTELY win it this year. None of this is attempting to diminish Coach Polk’s accomplishments in building an iconic program.

Baseball is a funny game. I think BOC will definitely be the best baseball coach we've ever had at State and I suspect his winning percentage will be much higher.

Now whether or not that translates into National titles, only the Gods of Baseball know will provide.

Lemonis also had the lion’s share of success in the pre-NIL / portal era.

I could easily see O’Connor’s first 3 years not matching Lemonis’ first 3 years based on that factor alone….even if you take away the national title.

That’s is a weird question to evaluate because of how uneven the Lemonis era was. 2019-2021 were awesome and then 2022-2025 were varying degrees of a hot mess.

Granted, Oak had some up and down at UVA too. He missed the NCAAT three times following his national title.

I think Oak is a better coach than Lemonis. But national championships are hard to predict. Omaha appearances may be a better indicator. Lemonis went twice in six chances. Do I think Oak’a Omaha rate will be higher than 33% ? Yeah I think so.

Very true in my view. I don’t think the baseball universe could have aligned more perfectly for him in year 1. Most of the “elite” teams have been bounced. UGA without a coach and one of best players game 1. It couldn’t be set up more perfectly to win it all.

It definitely could be set up more perfectly.

As it stands we have to win 2 of 3 on the home field of the best team remaining in the tournament, who has beaten us 4 outta 4.

We could've been the 16 seed playing Cal Poly at home this weekend.

Oak wins any comparison by simply not being a fat@$$ sitting on a bucket.
To be fair, Lemonis was a much better coach when he was still fat. A lot of the cracks began to show after the weight loss.
