Track is good for football players and many gridders excel on the oval. This is their story.

IL has five dudes at 10.40 or below. This is the fastest season I can ever remember. Top three times are from Juniors, led by Bennett Konkey of Geneva, who has seen his football stock explode after posting 10.25 15 days ago. Seems like a new offer comes in daily now, per his X.com account.

Notably, MJC has yet to post, nor have the other Flyers football burners yet.

Speaking of Texas, three of the top 5 100s have been turned in down there - 9.88, 9.95, and 10.02. FLA has the other two spots - 10.08 and 10.05.

Konkey follows up with a 10.41 and 21.00 - both all-time county meet records. Dude's stock has EXPLODED since his 10.25.

I forgot his name, but the LWE athlete who had a monster race as a sophomore coasted that to D1 - Konkey dropped the Donkey Hammer going into his senior year. Each is/will be rewarded greatly for a few foot races.

Track matters!

Damn shame ESL is 2A and Geneva 3A - would be cool to see him and MJC on the track side-by-side.

MJC and Laron Baker JR. to rep East Side in the 100 at state, MJC did not run the relays - I assume he was an alternate with Jahmori Ware, Raheem Floyd, Ronnie GoMiller and Baker Jr. posting decent qualifying times of 42.99 and 1.29.99. Each will play D1 football.

Logan Abrams leads Cary-Grove to second place at Class 3A Antioch Sectional

Cary-Grove's Logan Abrams was a double-winner in the shot put and discus at the Class 3A Antioch Sectional, while teammate Jameson Tenopir captured a title in the 1,600. C-G, McHenry, Crystal Lake Central and Huntley will all send individuals to state next weekend.

Illinois State University-bound Cary-Grove senior Logan Abrams easily won discus (58.04 meters) and shot put (20.15 meters). Abrams’ monster shot put was the eighth-best mark in the country and second best in the state for the 2025-26 season, while his discus mark ranked third best in Illinois.

“I’m very happy to come out with a double PR in shot and disc was huge, and I finally broke my school record in the shot put,” said Abrams, fifth at state last year in the shot put. “I’m hoping to come out with firsts in both events [at state], but I will have some tough competition.”

Flyer coasted into the finals with the top 6th time, then put in the A team for the 10-point gold.
41.79 - Durand Sain Jr., Myson Johnson-Cook, Ronnie GoMiller, LaRon Baker Jr

Rochester, who beat ESL in the prelim heat, started falsely. Second-place Kaneland completed the circuit in 42.16. Metamora had the fastest 2A time of the weekend (41.68), but wilted with a 4th place 42.21. Without seeing the race, I am not sure how Flyer finished and if it would have mattered.

The winning time would only get 6th in 3A, with Evanston clocking 41.11, Belleville West at 41.20, Glenwood at 41.52 and Belleville East at 41.52.

Flyer in top 4 with their 10, West leading 3A with 17. Much more to come!

Honest question, how many of the speedsters from those schools play football?

Meh. I remember when Plainfield North won track state all because of Marcellus Moore. Their football team was poo.

Just using Oswego as an example. Dontrell Young responsible for 19 of 23 team points. Jezhian Sprinkle had the other 4 points. Young is a safety, Sprinkle a WR.

Thats fine. Im just saying these are the schools with speed and athletes. If some other team beats them its due to hard work, discipline, coaching, and being good at football.

They weren't terrible during his time. Just not as good as Oswego and Minooka. Young received an offer from Iowa State this week as well.

We definitely schemed against him, but I wouldn't say those teams were Poo and the Lake Zurich Team they lost to, was really, really good. Beating Mt. Carmel and losing to Batavia in OT.

Track/field CAN be good for football players under certain conditions. The more alignments between how each program is run is important, however. For example, the underpinning structures of both regarding organization and accountability being similar is helpful. Also, being mindful of the health, rest and academics of the shared athletes can be key. To these ends, having a coach or two from football on the track/field staff is ideal. Like a coach from the gridiron in the throws to guide the big guys and another in the sprints/jumps to lead the skill FB kids. This is a rare recipe, but up close I saw it benefit both programs immensely for a handful of years. This specific instance featured 2 coaches from the varsity FB staff (1 the HC, the other an asst.) on the T/F staff (the latter as HC for the spring sport).

It's the Illinois RB's coach I don't want him to be mentored by. Unfortunately, it strongly outweighs my Illinois fandom.

That being said he picked up Iowa State and Indiana this weekend.

Still crazy that 4 of the top 10 are from the SWP West.

Looks like Oswego is just gonna reload. Hard to believe I may have to witness that play again where the Oswego DB chased down our WR on what should have been a TD.

And I keep telling yall that Plainfield N is gonna be right their too. The bottom fell out last year due to injuries but were competitive in every conference game. Lower levels were really solid.

Also, looks like the talent is up at HF even with some defectors to MC.

PN played lockport pretty tough in week one. O left a lot to be desired but it was week 1.

Last year was actually the "reload" year. This year they have a lot of SR's with a lot of playing time under their belts.

Same with York, it was tight until right before the half when everything fell apart somehow.

If I have to do my preseason Chicagoland ranking Panthers are top 5. May create my SouthWest suburbs thread soon, for all things SWP, SWSC, and some DVC & WSC (since our boundary touches the DVC and WSC).
