It's recruiting ranking update season and USA Basketball tryout season. Iowa has 6 outstanding '27 offers to players who have visited Iowa, and 1 commit. ESPN and Prospects Nation (PN) have recently updated their rankings as follows:

Nation Williams - ESPN # 14, PN # 13 - recently made made the USA Basketball U17 team.
Destiny Manyawu - ESPN # 23, PN # 45, no USA Basketball invite this summer.
Brookeslee Colvin - ESPN # 25, PN # 31, no USA Basketball invite this summer.
Madeline Mignery - ESPN # 45, PN # 32, U17 tryout, did not survive first cut.
Jada Seubert - ESPN # 72, PN # 47, no USA Basketball invite this summer.
Addison Medeck - ESPN # 75, PN # 52, no USA Basketball invite this summer.
Mya Wilson - ESPN # 88, PN # 57, no USA Basketball invite this summer.

May came and went without any demonstrated public Iowa interest from Iowa's other known '27 offers (who have not visited):

Kaleena Smith - ESPN & PN # 1, made U18 team
Ivanna Wilson-Manyacka - ESPN & PN # 2, made U17 team
Sydney Savoury - ESPN # 8, PN # 3, made U18 team
Harper Dunn - ESPN # 28, PN # 37, finalist for U17 team
Khalia Hartwell - ESPN # 71, PN # 38, U17 tryout, did not survive first cut

Hard to tell if any serious Iowa interest in this group.

Unlike last year, May also came and went without any new reported '27 offers. Perhaps there are some unknown offerees or perhaps Iowa feels good about where it stands with its known offerees.

Another factor could be the uncertainty surrounding the pending decision on the 5 in 5 rule change.

Good point. If 5-for-5 passes, Whiting would have 2 more years of eligibility, and Heiden/Chit Chat/Carnegie/Stremlow/Faison would have 3 more years, correct?

If Iowa retains seven or eight players from its main core and doesn't lose any of them to Portal, the recruitment in the 2027 class will be focused on finding some pieces for bench depth. The recruitment in the 2028 will be more important with several main core players on the roster in senior year.

If Dawn Plitzuweit is able to tighten the borders in the years ahead then the Gophers will become a B10 powerhouse program because Minnesota consistently produces D1 talent, highly ranked prospects…..and Plitzuweit is known as a pretty good recruiter (and coach). Time will tell.
The state of Minnesota has produced talent for years. Thank goodness that they can't keep them inside their borders.

Mya Wilson may not be an elite recruit, but could be an Iowa-Minnesota recruiting battle. Jan and Coach P were both watching her recently.

Another point is even if a 2027 recruit doesn't play much their first or second year, 5 in 5 would allow a player three years to play in a system they have developed under. I'm still hoping the Hawks take two or three.

The age-based ‘5 in 5’ rule was discussed at the last meeting and could very possibly be voted on and likely approved at the next meeting coming up later this month. If approved, all eleven players for the Hawkeyes next season would theoretically be eligible for a fifth year including Hays, Houston, Medina, Woliczko and Strömdahl in addition to those you mentioned. Faison will be only a sophomore this next season, so with an extra year could play four more seasons, as could Hays and Houston. Of course any player wanting to play an extra year would have to apply and be accepted into a graduate program.

So, that means all of the teams Iowa will play, will also have that extra year of experience. Got it.

5 for 5 or aged based eligibility seems destined for approval. Details to be worked out with regard to prep schools and medical redshirting. Late bloomers and international athletes would appear to be significantly benefited. Iowa has a very young core of players if they can be held together the future looks bright.

The teams that will benefit the most are those that are successful at ‘loading up’ with graduate student athletes either through retention or graduate transfer. (Think Indiana in football)

Also the more successful schools (eg financially enabled) will typically court upper class student athlete transfers at the expense of high schoolers.

Some nice players in the midwest for '27. Having Stremlow and Mallegni from Wisconsin can't hurt for Seubert.

Fisher isn't far from Iowa City--hopefully doesn't want to follow her sister to Nebraska (assuming she gets offered by Iowa). Watching her highlights I'd say she seems pretty comparable to Bjorn. I hope Jensen offers her, but maybe she has priorities set. ??

Watkins (#2 MN.) has been on an unofficial already.

Manyawu seems a good possibility. 6'3 ✨
