Still funny to me that Scheyer is put into this coaching atmosphere. He has had the level of talent equivalent to what cal had his first 5-6 years and sh** away two titles these last two years. And doing so with historically bad collapses to close games.
He is ***. He is just getting the special recruiting help from Shiteshefski, Nike, USA basketball, etc.

I also don’t think Sheyer will ever leave Duke, he was appointed coach by Splinter, he’s not going anywhere. NBA veterans are NOT going to listen to a baby faced kid who coaches at Duke, they just won’t. As for May, he might make it in the NBA but he’s got a baby face too. It’s a slippery slope for young college coaches to make it very long, although some have.

I don't see Dukes coach leaving. Not until he at least wins his alma mater a championship. Michigans coach could very well take off like flash to the NBA.

Agree, cant see Scheyer killing it in the NBA. Personally can see May way before Scheyer. Not many guys have had success going college to pro. Totally different animal.

Why ******* go to the nba? Leave a good thing you know your good at to coach guys who don’t give a **** and can be gone by tmrw
because to most in the actual profession.....NBA is the dream, not college. Dusty can go spend 10 years in the pros coaching for 3 different teams. and can still fall back to a great coaching job in college. college is the backup plan.

To be honest...I'm not seeing much difference between college and the NBA now days. Sucks because the NBA is boring to me. And obviously the passion for college sports is being sucked out. It clearly isn't the same when it comes to Kentucky Basketball and I'm not just talking about Pope and the last couple seasons

Sheyer will be another rat face, and be at Duke until he wants to leave.

Damn
If Pope could get that talent, $9 would come soon after.

No it wouldn’t. Pope is not a good coach. And his teams don’t compete. Give him Duke’s roster and he will win 63% of the games.

We need scheyer to stay at Duke. Any coach actually good would've already won a few titles already.

Disagree. Scheyer is an outstanding coach. If he were to stay at Duke for the same timeframe as K did, I won’t be surprised if he winds up with 3-5 titles. He’s a great in-game coach, excellent recruiter, and a wonderful motivator and is great at assembling rosters. I hate Duke but anyone saying Scheyer isn’t a good coach is probably saying so because that’s what they want to believe.

Winning titles is extremely difficult and he’s only been at Duke for four seasons and already has a Final Four and an all-time game winner was needed to keep him from a second one.

NBA is a better gig.

Coaches just have to coach.

They don’t recruit. They don’t have to schmooze donors.

They don’t have to win hearts and minds of fans.

They answer to one mega billionaire owner who most likely don’t care because he’s so rich. Even the owners who are more hands on, that’s more of the GM’s problem.

and if you are terrible its ok because you get a high draft pick in the lottery (at least you used too). and even newbie coaches make a boat load. jj redick, who i think is an average coach with just 2 years coaching makes 9 million a year. plus probably a bunch of other stuff.

They could just wait 3 seasons and get Scheyer once Duke fans have grown tired of him having the best or 2nd best roster each year and failing to produce a title.

I don’t know. If he keeps knocking on the door then he will eventually break through it. We need their recruiting to fall off bad.

Its not so much that hes a bad coach, although I think you can sort of make the case that he's pretty average.. but its what hes given. Lets run it down. Duke is:

Top3 in money spent for their roster.
1st in recruiting team rankings
1st in overall recruiting pitch (I dont know how players buy this brotherhood stuff but they do).
Top3 in cheating/NCAA protection.
1st in officiating protection.
Top2 home court environment.
1st in media coverage/glorification.
Play in a garbage conference.

To not get a title with all that going for you, you simply cant be that great of a coach. In terms of the rankings above, "head coach" would be the only thing outside of "top3", but realistically, Scheyer isnt even top10. Head coaching is Duke's weakest link right now. Imagine if Dusty May was there where he'd be getting a +8 free throws.

I think we want Scheyer at Duke for as long as possible. Hes their weak link IMO.
I disageee. I think his system is working really well. He’s always a 1 seed and it’s not lile he’s losing 10 games a year. His losses are to championship caliber teams and they usually come down to a crazy play (Houston and UConn). That's just basketball.
It’s really hard to win with young guys, no matter how talented they are and it’s even harder when you have a brand new team every year.

If you get a shot to coach in the NBA, you do it. The money is better and you don't have to recruot, or develop young players.

The contracts are handled by a GM and it’s up to the players to perform. The coach doesn't get the heat the players do. It’s the opposit in college.

And what's the "babyface" stuff? Why does that matter? Look at Brad Stevens. That guy has a babyface and look at his career path.
