The writer is putting himself in OUR position, that of the Rutgers fans. My interpretation of his question is what was the better fan experience - when we were competing for Big East titles, or now that we are competing for B1G mid-table status. It's a question that has been debated on this board.

So as an intellectual exercise, I don't think his thesis is crazy. Or if you prefer, retarded.

As long as everyone realizes it is only that - an intellectual exercise. It ain't happening.

I'd rather be alongside our academic peers as an RU alum which are B1G schools. UConn is only Indy in football because no one above AAC level wants them for football and they went back to the Catholics with their tails between their legs to keep their precious basketball program from dying in a mid major. If the ACC called UConn today they'd peace out on the Catholics faster than the Catholics can finish saying 3 Hail Marys.

He's a genius. He's advocating we drop out of the Big Ten to do what Uconn is doing, all while Uconn would give up everything they have to jump in the spot we stupidly vacated, thus not doing the thing he's advocating that we do, and they are doing now. Biden in the debate made more sense.

I've never heard of this guy, but he might be one of the dumbest people in the entire country.

UConn athletics is a cash furance.

Football team hemorrhages money. Basketball teams lose a lot of money too.

UConn gets $3 million media rights for basketball, nothing for football media rights, less than every other FBS school in CFP and bowl payouts.

Rutgers athletics has made its decision - lose on the field, earn from the media deal.

Hilariously, UConn athletics puts out a press release each year titled, "UConn's Annual NCAA Financial Report Released." The press release brags about how much money UConn athletics is making - but doesn't provide the NCAA financial report that shows the UConn athletic department loses tens of millions every year.

Rutgers lost $78 million last year. It could lose $100 million this year. Joining UConn in Big East and as football independent would put the number in the $150 million range.

I wonder if Sports Renaissance Man took the trouble to find out whether UConn fans would want Connecticut Athletics to stay the way they are, or be B1G?
But at least he didn't recommend RU leaving the B1G to join the ACC.
I bet he'd get some support there, even if that's almost as dumb as what he suggested

This is all fine and good, but the reality is that even with schianos best effort, the program will not be in the upper echelon of the big ten any time in the foreseeable future.

When the ACC was the ACC and the B1G was really the Big 10, yes.

I say this after having “serious” discussions on the topic in the 80s at Brower over chicken patties, and cheese sauce with cheese fries.

Because at the time State Penn was still an independent as were we. Even the Big East Football Conference hadn’t even happened yet.

But now, knowing what we know. Not at all….so glad it turned out the way it did.

The only change(s) I would make, if possible, would be the following:

- B1G: just add us and State Penn to keep it at 12.

- Maryland stays in the ACC that we remember

- Nebraska stays in the BigXII

- The PAC10 schools stay out west

Bringing back the SWC, with a 12 program limit on all conferences, would be nice.
I would add have Texas in the SWC with all it's old members and Nebraska would be happy in the BigXII.

Rekindle the nationally significant rivalry with Colgate.🤣 Dude looked up a chart on past seasons and regurgitated like a dodo bird is all he did.

I hope Connie suffers a terrible fate, I hope they lose and lose and lose and fade away in obscurity

you're talking about Paternos wish in the early 90s. Rutgers was looked at as a partner for PSU as a two fer but alas.....

I’m Don Draper in this meme…

I’ve mentioned this before but the worst thing you can do to a guy in the firehouse is ignore them.

That’s really how I feel about those guys.

F that. Love the western schools becoming the epicenter of the B1G!

Yeah, but in the mid 80s (which is the time period I’m referring to) I don’t any of us at the time ever thought this was something that even had the chance of happening down the road.

My hope, back then, was to be the 9th or 10th school added to the ACC. Never ever thinking the B1G could possibly be an option.

That being said, as I did earlier, I am thrilled the way it worked out for us.
