Honestly, I’m not really an optimist, but…

Because we'll have one rebounder on the floor?
Really? Ousmane is still young, but long and quick and athletic. He averaged 6.8 rebounds for Cremona this past year. It is my understanding that is a man’s league so it would seem encouraging. McBride averaged 5.6 boards per outing this past year. Wilkins is 6’5” and Diallo 6’4”. As a true frosh, Wilkins averaged 2 rebounds per game. Zoom averaged 4. I think there is more reason optimism.

This. I think we'll be fine on O. The other two areas are looking pretty poor. I think this is probably a variation of Pope's first squad. The difference is that squad had butler and Williams who were both big defensive guys.

People keep sleeping on the talent of that first squad. Its the best team he's had so far.
Agreed. My top 3 hopes/keys:

Diallo be better than I think (I am dubious coming from a bad UW team with a lottery pick)
Moreno gains enough strength to give more post offense
KW takes a leap to pair with Milan (I don't see the other 3 guys as starter quality at this level)

……I think this roster may be better than most aholes think. I believe Diallo
can beat his man off the dribble and get in the lane. Upgrade. Wilkins is going to be a huge difference maker. Kam Williams can really play. I expect Moreno to improve. I believe McBride will be a key player. Morton can play. Kepnang can rebound and protect the rim. Obviously Milan will be the star. The million dollar question is Hawthorne. Who knows?

Spell check just doesn’t like Diallo.
Kev let me ask you something. Were you a Tubby fan?

Ousmane will probably be coming off the bench. Even if the all those players replicate their previous production in this new landing spot, Moreno will need to greatly increase his rebounding.

Adding Milan has folks finally considering adding us to the preseason Top 25 lists. We weren't even being considered prior. That should tell the pie in the sky fans something.

So far this all just feels like a latter day Tubby team. I still loved watching those dudes, but it just wasn't good enough.

I'll be damn happy to be wrong about all that, but right now, that's what I see

I mean its not like they're sliding us in at 25 or something. Most have us anywhere from 13-17, that means you're a 3-5 seed with a chance to make a run with the right draw.

I think that's about right. People talking about final four or winning 35 games or something are just trolling to get under peoples skin or have some mental issues.

I think this roster is his best one so far & even before signing Momcilivic, none of his rosters have ever had 2 downhill driving PG's, Butler wasn't that great at it when healthy. Both of their assist rates are over 30% which is insane. Amari always drove me crazy when he wouldn't put his hands up while defending the rim. The one wild card from that 1st team is Jaxson Robinson, that dude could cut to the basket, having said this, next year's roster having 2 PG's that can get to the rim opens up more offense than zoom action did with Jaxson. N'Diaye is more athletic than Carr & Kam plus Hawthorne cancels out Almonor.
Moreno and Momcilovic are both easily top 5 at their positions, as you said, we have two downhill PG's, we have two other players besides Momcilovic that can fill it up from 3 in McBride and Kam, and we have a couple of bigs tyat are athletic in N'Diaye and Kepnang. I think folks sometimes get hung up on how many 5 stars we have(understandable after 15 years with Cal), and forget you need stars and role players alike. We have go to guys, shooter, ball handlers, post scoring, athletes...I have seen teams win big with a lot less. I like how the pieces fit on paper

Neither Momcilovic nor Kam are rebounders at the 3 (let alone if we have them at the 4). McBride was ok, in a much lesser conference. N'Diaye I just don't have too high of hopes for - his international numbers are very similar to Jelavic's, and his game is to float on the perimeter on offense at least. I don't think he'll play more than 15 mpg. I just don't see him as ready to compete at the SEC level.

Who the hell can predict and be right that a bunch of over paid to play basketball kids will be able to gel and make it to a final four weekend. Unless Tom Izzo or such takes over as coach I dont expect anything past first weekend now n days. Cant wait to test the ole ticker out on a final four game. Wish it was this coming season. My prediction 22 to 25 wins and a favorable draw to Sweet 16 were we meet a solid team and survive by 2. Cats make E8 and lose to a Yankee school.
