I’m speculating, of course, but that’s what message boards are for. I think we are ultimately headed toward a 32 to 40 team super league, and I suspect it is inevitable.

Many people say such a move would ruin college football. I disagree. It would change college football, but change has always been a constant in the sport. The history of college athletics is one of continual evolution through conference realignment, scholarship limits, television contracts, bowl systems, and playoff formats. Every generation has experienced significant changes.

A super league would not end college football. It would simply create a new version of it, just as previous changes have done throughout the sport's history.

I for one would in all likelihood would stop watching. I don't watch G league basketball, and I don't watch minor league baseball. The only difference would be that a university's name would be attached to a professional team and be subsidized by the public.
You may be right as I see the present format as unsustainable. This would not prevent the wave of lawsuits that I forecast for the near future from female athletes claiming discrimination based on unequal distribution of league/University NIL monies. The only way the Universities can get away with what they are doing is to divest themselves of their teams and sell the naming rights to the entity that the Athletic Department becomes. An anti-trust exemption wouldn't help, as contacts cannot knowingly discriminate or violate the rights of protected classes such as females. Nor can anti-trust exemptions.

Super League?

Just mimic the Premier League ⚽️ structure. Run the programs as a business. Buy & sell players.

The benefits of a super league -

1. More parity. No more tOSU vs NW
2. More big match ups. Alabama vs Oregon type games - maybe 8 every week allowing for byes.
3. The money for those top 40 teams would be incredible.
4. Teams not in the top 40 would be more competitive against each other. Fewer blowouts.

and, 5 - It would be more like the NFL

The downside -
1. The remainder of D1 would be second class. Most probably not on TV
2. The remainder of D1 would be starving for money and talent. Talent and money both going to the top 40
3. If everyone in the top 40 is a super team, no epic upsets.
4. The loss of some of the rivalry games

and, 5 - It would be more like the NFL

I may be in the minority, but I don’t think a “Super League” will happen in my lifetime…if ever.

Then again, I’m 67 years old, so “my lifetime” could only be another few days!

I turned 70 this year. Don't you know 70 is the new 60? That's what they say but boy my body sure aches every morning. Three knee surgeries and my knees have become a good weather barometer. Still kicking, just not as high.

The super football teams are not necessarily the same for basketball. Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, UConn, etc. are not that super at football but rely on the profit sharing piece. Let's just all admit it, college sports have become a dumpster fire of old tires. Hard to put out and clean up.

I could go with 5 divisions of 10 to 12 teams each. Fifty is stretching it a bit though

At your age I'm sure you've figured out by now, all change isn't automatically good.

Probably based on history. Iowa has had a consistently winning football program over the past 45 years. And despite some down years, they have had a decent basketball program over that same period.

If we are talking about a 40 team super league, I don’t see how Iowa could be left out. Even with 30 teams.
