Right, he was the highest ranked qb on the board and asked for one million from fsu, Lebby lost out on Arnold and panicked ……he paid way too much for a guy who never took a snap. So much spin on that situation….
Nope. Not even close. We didn’t want Arnold. We went after a backup in the idea that if Shapen goes down we needed a competent backup ( Shapen had an injury history). LK got a deal that was backloaded based on snaps and games played. Not a front loaded deal. If you’re gonna lie at least try DA.

Do you have more details on his deal? I'm always interested in the compensation of players, but there is little hard data out there. I don't blame the player for getting paid more than he is worthy, that's on us.

Chambliss makes them look like a money-balling program, but rest assured, he was signed as a backup. They had full intentions of Austin Simmons being the starting QB. In other words, they got lucky.

But yes Chambliss is the exact type QB we need to target.

I agree, and I honestly don't think we'll ever sign that many, we never really have before. You know how it goes, once in a while we get a couple true 4 stars like a Fletcher Cox. And I think we can afford to pay them.
Exactly, Chambliss is a lucky find for OM that was only supposed to be there for one year as an emergency backup. OM had little to no competition to sign him and Kiffin didn't even start him until he had to due to Austin Simmons going down with injury. Chambliss is only getting to play this year due to the decision of one Ole Miss in-state judge. So really OM will be playing 2 illegal players this season I guess. Chambliss who is now getting a sixth year without any approved medical redshirt and the dude from Clemson that OM stole after he was already signed and enrolled at Clemson and was no longer a recruitable athlete.

No doubt OM has more money/commitment than us, but they are probably our closest comp. We need to staff a Portal Scouting Department, like an NFL team and money ball it. Lane did this and found a great QB (that he probably didn't spend much on), we likely spent much more money on Shapen and Chrome-in-hawk, two known quantities. We took the easy way out rather than putting the work in and finding that hidden gem.

Hopefully NIL will be reigned in, but we until that happens, we much portal it. What if we sign a HS schooler, develop him and he shows out? The next year his is gone to the highest bidder, after we've invested in him for 2-3 years. We can keep a few high profile players, but not many.
I forgot which program, but saw a story on a team that hired a pretty credentialed nfl guy to manage their portal, roster build. Very smart. opposite of what goes on at State.

haha, we probably have a Jr High coach running it (Peaches).

I'd go one step further and have a GM, with NFL front office experience, running the football program. We have a GM, but he doesn't have NFL experience.

If you go back to the boosters and Brad Peterson tearing up Leachs 2022 team and staff prior to 2023, you don’t realize how close you are to the truth. That is Peaches Mentality and look where it took the program.

Tell me you don’t keep up with our current situation without telling me you don’t keep up. We lost zero players this last portal cycle we wanted to keep in football.
We have money we aren’t afraid to spend it. This po ol idea if a kid is good he will leave isn’t based in reality anymore

Two questions about this claim

1) You’re telling me that Jeff Lebby coming hot off of a 2-10 season convinced the #6 QB and #24 overall transfer to come to State with a school friendly, backloaded pay for play deal? How?

2) Being that the above pay for play scenario is a blatant violation of NIL policy, when will our sanctions be handed down?

Edited to add: Welp, I can see that the recent revenue sharing legislation does actually allow for incentive based contracts tied to performance, so I guess I missed that change

No it’s 7 or hit the road. We have invested in the talent and staff to win and win now. Yes, he got the first two years to reset the program and rebuild year 3 is the year to win.
Alright, man, let me ask you something. You truly think we're going to look like a solid football team that can, at worst, go to a bowl and at best, make a real run? Because that's how it sounds.

Let me let you in on a secret. The team was built to win LAST year too. And in general, we did look like a competent team at times. But the snatching defeat from the jaws of victory is the exact type of quality that losing coaches exhibit (Croom, Moorhead).

I don't know that the situation is QUITE as dire as we think, i.e. I'm not sure you need an NFL guy. I think, just overall, that we have to pick our lane, and then the GM stuff gets a lot less complicated. But it's not as simple as, go get an NFL guy, hell if you try the same stuff Lenny has it doesn't matter if the guy is NFL pedigreed or not.

You know JA. We did have three more chances to win and if you and others knew the mess Lebby inherited yall would be a lot more interested in the ongoing of the current team.
We showed progress and by all accounts this time last year most of yall that was what you wanted to see. Hell some were perfectly ok last year with 5-7 preseason.
I can’t fix your uneducated ignorance but from the outside looking in most view our program much differently than you and others that post on this board

Maybe we should hire this guy
Director of Player Personnel at Ohio State, where he helped the Buckeyes secure the nation’s No. 4 overall recruiting class in 2023.

Prior to Ohio State, spent the 2022 season at Marshall as the program’s General Manager.

He has also held various other personnel roles throughout his career, including Assistant Director of Player Personnel at Alabama (2019-22), Assistant Director of Player Personnel at UCF (2018-19), Assistant Director of Player Personnel at Tennessee (2017-18).

I’m responding to Lebby “coaching for his job” , as If he’s under enormous pressure to get this thing turned around. Well, he’s got a golden parachute and probably knows he’s not going to be back next year, so yea..no.

Lebby getting paid 14 million for 2-22 in the sec is almost comical.
Hey dubmass, he's not paid on Wins or losses, he's getting paid to coach. 2-22 is the outcome of what has occurred to this point in his tenure. If he continues on that trajectory it will be why he is fired.

We signed Chrome-in-hawk to be a back up and I bet we paid a lot more for him. Lebby hasn't yet proved he's smart with our money. I'd bet he's not putting the resources in Portal Scouting that he needs too.
I'm curious if the HC is the guy doing the contracts and determining the amount of $ to put towards any player. I'd guess he says who he needs and someone else handles the NIL stuff. But I really don't know.

You show up here every seven months or so and just be an *******. Just because people don't come on here and brag like you don't mean they don't know **** or do ****. You are not the only guy on here who donates. Last year you were bragging about how you donate more than most on this board earns in a year. How the **** do you know that. You are a head job dude. If you donate more than I make in a year you are dumbass. One thing I know for sure is the product put on the field the last two season is subpar. I was starting to buy in until the bowl game. They looked like ****. They looked out of shape. They looked uncoached. It was embarrassing and all the fault falls on the head coach. I hope they come out next season and kick ***. From what I have seen the head coach does not have the coaching mentality it takes to turn things around. I hope I am wrong. I doubt it.

I have been around the world and all over this country. I have learned a lot about people, and you come off as the guy with a 2" pennis, driving a Solid Black Dodge Ram Dually with tinted windows compensating for it. It's not what you say, it's how you say it. You can defend your point of view without having a one-man circle jerk. Talking about how much money you have. I never attack Miss State. I will defend the school. But when I see a Head Coach that sucks, I can call him out. That's not attacking Miss State. That's where you get it wrong. Every poster other than the few Ole Miss guys on this board loves Miss State just as much as you. We call people out because we love Miss State. Lebby has not proven a damn thing since he's been here. When I see someone screwing up, I am not going to defend him. Lebby got his one more year. Let's see how he does. What progress he made last season he jacked it away with his bowl preparation.

I have tried to make the point to Mr. 77 that it is not what you say, it is how you say it. And as someone that also gives a lot of money to the NIL, and also buys season tickets, it is awful to call somebody out for stuff like that. It smacks of arrogance, and rarely leads to positive outcomes.

Mr. 77, has good football knowledge, but it is hard to take that knowledge given he presents in an arrogant way. I have tried to promote civil discourse, but it is obvious I have failed.

While I appreciate both comments. Yes, I let the constant negativity without any situational understanding from the common negative posters on this board form my response. I’m not apologizing just saying I will work on being better. I will however defend MSU when pepper like 85, Pat Goat and others make shite up just to be negative.

And no I don’t drive a Ram.

You really need to accept reality, for a program like ours, the days of signing a 3/4 star and developing him into a first round draft pick over 3-4 years are gone. At a bigger programs, like ND/TOSU/Bama/UGA/LSU, they may be able to do that, but not here. Lane signed a decent HS class this cycle at LSU, but in Oxford, he put little effort into HS recruiting.

For a highly rated High Schooler, they are going to want too much money for a program like ours to take a change on.
There is literally someone on the team we are hopefully do this exact thing to.
