I doubt he cares, he’s a multimillionaire whether he gets fired or not. he can go be an OC at some middling school ,and just enjoy life.Lebby is coaching for his job and a recruiting class. No one is going to sign here unless he shows he can improve on last year. Sept. 12 might decide his future.
Of (coarse/course) he cares. Do you actually believe an SEC coach doesn’t mind losing because he’s being paid big $? You reckon BulldogBruce didnt care if he struck out because he was getting paid? Just sad the way some of our fans think.I doubt he cares, he’s a multimillionaire whether he gets fired or not. he can go be an OC at some middling school ,and just enjoy life.
Yea I’m sure he’d like to climb the ladder and be a big success As a HC. But I’m also sure he sees the writing on the wall and he’s raked in 14 million for his troubles, and can catch on somewhere as an OC making pretty good money. Is Jimbo Fisher heart broken ? I doubt it. He’s got 77.5 million reasons not to sweat it.Of (coarse/course) he cares. Do you actually believe an SEC coach doesn’t mind losing because he’s being paid big $? Jimbo WANTED to win, Jimbo didn’t win. For the most part not winning isn’t due to lack of effort a coach puts into a game. If your opinion had been he’s not a good coach , well that’s your opinion. But you didn’t you decided he doesn’t need to win because he’s getting paid.Yea I’m sure he’d like to climb the ladder and be a big success As a HC. I swear this is the dumbest argument fans make from time to time. Of course he cares. We might not think he's very good at his job, but it's not because he doesn't care if he wins or not.I doubt he cares, he’s a multimillionaire whether he gets fired or not. he can go be an OC at some middling school ,and just enjoy life.
I’m responding to Lebby “coaching for his job” , as If he’s under enormous pressure to get this thing turned around. Well, he’s got a golden parachute and probably knows he’s not going to be back next year, so yea..no.I swear this is the dumbest argument fans make from time to time. Of course he cares. We might not think he's very good at his job, but it's not because he doesn't care if he wins or not.
If anyone can have a c'est la vie attitude toward success knowing that the performance of your team/office/company/... will impact the careers and families of umpteen other coaches, trainers, analysts, etc., they are a POS.I swear this is the dumbest argument fans make from time to time. ^^^^^^ this 100%, we've seen the blue print (only 90 miles to the north).I say live by the portal and rebuild every year. If we recruit out of high school, he should be a legacy. We will not be able to build a program with high school guys. If they end up being good, they will just drive their expensive sports car off somewhere else. If not, they will be a blocking dummy for practice.
HS recruiting is still a thing?? Who knew?Stinks…
haven’t landed a top rated DL in years out of highschool. Looks like a big 3 star class with highly rated guys close to starkville.
"they are a POS."If anyone can have a c'est la vie attitude toward success knowing that the performance of your team/office/company/... will impact the careers and families of umpteen other coaches, trainers, analysts, etc., they are a POS.
Continuing to say that it is ALL about money is just an overly cynical way of looking at it. Everybody is paying baseline money, so you're in the game. Beyond that, still have to find guys that fit what you want to do. Your culture still matters, and players want to play where they can win.Could someone describe exactly what "recruiting" consists of in the NIL era ? Are you recruiting against other schools or their money ?

I disagree. I think your strategy is highly different between programs and their culture. You really need to accept reality, for a program like ours, the days of signing a 3/4 star and developing him into a first round draft pick over 3-4 years are gone. At a bigger programs, like ND/TOSU/Bama/UGA/LSU, they may be able to do that, but not here. Lane signed a decent HS class this cycle at LSU, but in Oxford, he put little effort into HS recruiting.
For a highly rated High Schooler, they are going to want too much money for a program like ours to take a change on.
I know many of you don't like to admit this, but Ole Miss has more money than us. Or, they are at least prepared to spend a lot more money than us on football players. We don't need to try and operate like them.^^^^^^ this 100%, we've seen the blue print (only 90 miles to the north).
Which happens to also be exactly why the “but who will want to come here if we fire him” argument continues to be ludicrousI doubt he cares, he’s a multimillionaire whether he gets fired or not. he can go be an OC at some middling school ,and just enjoy life.
That might be the single dumbest take I've ever read on this board, and THAT is saying something.I doubt he cares, he’s a multimillionaire whether he gets fired or not. he can go be an OC at some middling school ,and just enjoy life.
Probably needs 6 wins to be 100% safe. 5 wins, with no blowouts and look good in most games, with KT showing out, then he may still be safe.Hadad said yesterday he needs to win 7 games to retain his job. I can't see how 7 wins is even remotely possible. If it is, who are the 7?
Assigning a specific win total is not smart. Even Selman (hopefully) would not do this, as evidenced when he fired Arnett.Hadad said yesterday he needs to win 7 games to retain his job. I can't see how 7 wins is even remotely possible. If it is, who are the 7?

We don't have a good culture. We also don't spend above and beyond. That means going out and taking other P4 starters is unlikely. So our portal strategy should be scouting G6 and lower for guys who want an opportunity to move up, especially on offense. Also, find the bounce-back MS guys who have a chip on their shoulder and want to come home, can't be too proud to do this. On defense we really should be focusing on MS-grown talent and development, and spend the bulk of our NIL there to keep them, get that DLU monikor back. Build strength in the weight room, not a bunch of BS speed training crap. Get serious about that shlt. Evaluate and stick with the MS guys, don't cut them because they don't start as 1st or 2nd year players. Use our JUCOs, they are too close and convenient not to.
Lead with defense, innovate on offense. Run whatever offense you want, but never do anything that will compromise the defense. That may mean we can't run all this hurry-up buncha plays stuff. So be it.
We'll lose some to the portal, sure. Sometimes the money is too much to turn down. But we'll keep most, and we can always go back to the portal, as long as we are consistent with our strategy. Can't just go pay the best players we'll find, we will end up wasting so much time doing it, and end up with crappy players, like we found out the past two years.
I know many of you don't like to admit this, but Ole Miss has more money than us. Or, they are at least prepared to spend a lot more money than us on football players. We don't need to try and operate like them.
Real talk, guys. I know you won't agree. So many just want to do whatever the next program is doing. We won't be the most talented, we never are or have been. But we can be older and experienced and if we stay consistent, we'll have success.
November 1, 2026.Hadad said yesterday he needs to win 7 games to retain his job. I can't see how 7 wins is even remotely possible. If it is, who are the 7?
Chambliss makes them look like a money-balling program, but rest assured, he was signed as a backup. They had full intentions of Austin Simmons being the starting QB. In other words, they got lucky. No doubt OM has more money/commitment than us, but they are probably our closest comp. We need to staff a Portal Scouting Department, like an NFL team and money ball it. Lane did this and found a great QB (that he probably didn't spend much on), we likely spent much more money on Shapen and Chrome-in-hawk, two known quantities. We took the easy way out rather than putting the work in and finding that hidden gem.
I agree, and I honestly don't think we'll ever sign that many, we never really have before. You know how it goes, once in a while we get a couple true 4 stars like a Fletcher Cox. And I think we can afford to pay them. What if we sign a HS schooler, develop him and he shows out? The next year his is gone to the highest bidder, after we've invested in him for 2-3 years. We can keep a few high profile players, but not many.
We signed Chrome-in-hawk to be a back up and I bet we paid a lot more for him. Lebby hasn't yet proved he's smart with our money. I'd bet he's not putting the resources in Portal Scouting that he needs too.Chambliss makes them look like a money-balling program, but rest assured, he was signed as a backup. They had full intentions of Austin Simmons being the starting QB. In other words, they got lucky.
What high profile players did we lose this past portal? What if we sign a HS schooler, develop him and he shows out? The next year his is gone to the highest bidder, after we've invested in him for 2-3 years. We can keep a few high profile players, but not many.
Well, yeah. I'm more talking about what the next coach should do. And what the overall plan for our AD and football program should be, no matter who is the coach.Lebby hasn't yet proved he's smart with our money. I'd bet he's not putting the resources in Portal Scouting that he needs too.
Tell me you don’t keep up with our current situation without telling me you don’t keep up. We lost zero players this last portal cycle we wanted to keep in football.I say live by the portal and rebuild every year. If we recruit out of high school, he should be a legacy. We will not be able to build a program with high school guys. If they end up being good, they will just drive their expensive sports car off somewhere else. No it’s 7 or hit the road. We have invested in the talent and staff to win and win now. Yes, he got the first two years to reset the program and rebuild year 3 is the year to win.Probably needs 6 wins to be 100% safe. 5 wins, with no blowouts and look good in most games, with KT showing out, then he may still be safe.
Chromehawk was a great bargain, 500k to a million to hold a clip board, great signing*No doubt OM has more money/commitment than us, but they are probably our closest comp. Hopefully NIL will be reigned in, but we until that happens, we much portal it. What if we sign a HS schooler, develop him and he shows out? The next year his is gone to the highest bidder, after we've invested in him for 2-3 years. We can keep a few high profile players, but not many.
Exactly , and the next coach salary will bump up to 5.5-6 million per year with inflation. No reason or excuse to keep the Lebby gravy train rolling. if I was him I’d just retire to a gulf coast condo now.Which happens to also be exactly why the “but who will want to come here if we fire him” argument continues to be ludicrous
Even for an SEC school at the bottom of the totem pole like us, the formula is to sign a contract, make $20M, get fired and sail off into the sunset at age 40. I don’t care who you are, but that’s a pretty sweet gig
Nope. Not even close DA. But keep trying to act like you know Shite.Chromehawk was a great bargain, 500k to a million to hold a clip board, great signing*
Right, he was the highest ranked qb on the board and asked for one million from fsu, Lebby lost out on Arnold and panicked ……he paid way too much for a guy who never took a snap. So much spin on that situation….Nope. Not even close DA. But keep trying to act like you know Shite.
