WASHINGTON, D.C. — After two decades of rising support for LGBTQ+ issues, U.S. attitudes have plateaued and begun to slide back modestly. Approval of same-sex marriage, moral acceptance of gay and lesbian relations, and endorsement of gender changes are all down from peaks reached in the early 2020s.

NOBODY cares who you sleep with.

The problem with dems has always been because they want everyone to agree with it, and pat them on the back. It's never going to happen. I have a sibling who is a part of that community. We just don't talk about it.

Do you have an example of being asked to pat someone on the back? I don't mean that as a gotcha, but genuinely. What have you been personally asked to do that is an issue?

It's not for me personally. I wonder who some of you folks hang around.

The people that demonstrate/protest in the streets, that's a them/dem problem.

NO BODY CARES! Live your life. Sleep with who you want to sleep with. The American public doesn't care. The problem comes in where folks expect everyone to agree with it, and say that it's great.

Most people don't feel that way.

I guess I just don't understand why people care then. Who is being asked to agree with everything and say its great? Why do you care if they have parades, etc? I went to a greek festival in Greenville a few weeks ago. They were celebrating who they were and their heritage, etc. I at no point felt at odds because my heritage is German Irish. People flying a shamrock around St Patrick's each year, who really cares. Rainbow flag, is just a flag. They are sharing their support. They aren't asking anything of you. Just my two cents.

It matters when this stuff is pushed on children. I don't understand how you can be obtuse to this because you seem like a reasonable person.

So that is what I'm asking then. What have you seen pushed on children? Most don't agree with sex changes etc prior to being 18, so excluding that, but otherwise, what are you seeing being "pushed" on children? I ask because I see people complain about same sex representation on tv or something as something being "pushed" which I tend to find ridiculous, personally. A same sex couple on tv isn't something being pushed. It's just the reality of life. And I personally consider myself an ally of the community, and yet, I am still a monogamous heterosexual male. I'm allowing the "push" I guess and I'm still straight. One of my son's best friend's has two moms, and I've never been worried he is suddenly going to like men. Things existing doesn't make you be that thing. If teachers were having students practicing kissing same sex individuals in class or something, that would be pushing.

Funny how when their arguments fall apart, they ALWAYS default to "what about the children?" LOL

It's like they think that being gay means you want to convert kids, which is just nonsense. Your sexual attraction is not determined by what other people like.

So you don’t care at all, just don’t

talk about that gay stuff
talk about your partners or relationships
have a wedding
adopt kids

etc etc

Basically you are “ok” as long any gay people in your presence act like they don’t exist or there’s something wrong with them that should never be discussed.

Currently, 5% of Republicans say changing one’s gender is morally acceptable, compared with 42% of independents and 60% of Democrats. When Gallup first asked the question in 2021, those figures were 22%, 48% and 67%, respectively.

People are idiots. How is that a moral question to begin with?

I could understand strange or unnatural or the like... but moral?

Of course most people don't think with much resolution on questions like this.

And the underlying part here is that all of that is solely because HE is uncomfortable with it.

You don't have to agree with it. You just don't have to discriminate against them, or hate on them. That's all that LGBTQ people really ask of you.

30 years of relentless GOP bashing on the LGBTQ community is paying off. Will & Grace made it not okay to say phaggot out lout, except here. It's been a long road for people like the OP to create the built in enemy that the GQP needs. All authoritarian movements need enemies to focus their ills and failures on. @NorthernHawkeye has certainly done his part.

It seems that a lot of conservatives think that LGBT only exist because they are "converted" by propaganda or whatever. Like if a kid never encountered LGBT people or media then they could not possibly be gay. Which is just absolute lunacy

Yeah, I just don't see existing is pushing, even if loud and obnoxious about it. I hate seeing a lot of college teams gear other than Clemsons, but I don't feel like they're pushing, etc. They just like who they like, are proud of who they are, etc.

Also asking for wider acceptance. The leading cause of youth homelessness is kids getting kicked out of their homes for being LGBT

Did you have to worry about whether or not you can bring a 10 year old to the Greek parade because there was about a 100% chance that you’d see men in leather chaps with their naked bits hanging out riding a giant ***** down the street? Debauchery seems to go hand in had with gay pride at parades.

And I’m not offended by it and fully support LGBTQ rights. But you’re asking why people may be a bit anxious when it comes to the issue of parades. I’d start there.

Sounds like you'd know what you're getting into if you went to either event VOLUNTARILY.

If you don't want to see it, don't go. How bout that?

I wouldn't take my son to mardi gras on Bourbon St either. But not really what most people are talking about when they're talking about things being "pushed" on them.
