I really think TEAM B beats a very good / hyped VTech them this year. (albeit that is just a guess at VTechs lineup for this season)
TEAM A would have a legit shot at shutting VTech out with Seidel, Bassett, Henson, and Mullen having chances to break the shut out
but Ono, PJ, Mitch, Rocco, and Barr would all be looking to bonus!

To get back to the original thread...

All the 5-FOR-5 talk is fine, but I do not think that it will be in place this year (or possibly, ever), so it is "business as usual", I would think.

With Redshirts still available, I think we likely look like this:

125- Lilledahl (Sidun coming in 2027)

133- Ono (Blaze RS to build to 141) (Burnett coming in 2027)

141- Desmond (Davis RS)

149- Van Ness (Herring RS) (Mangano and Shepherd coming in 2027)

157- Kasak (Duke RS)

165- Messenbrink (James RS)

174- Henckel

184- Welsh (Cunningham backs him up)

197- Barr

285- Mirasola or Mirasola
It's in place. No more redshirts.

Personally, I HATE 5 for 5

I'd be on board for 5 for 4, though...Why wasn't that even considered?

It just seems to me that that would have been the most logical step from where we are currently. 5 for 5 bastardizes every record for all history
I’m not saying I agree with it, but I think part of the logic is universities feel if they’re gonna pay all these expenses for five years, they might as well get five full years out of the players.

I personally would like it to stay 5 for 4, but implement the age 19 starting date. I’m so sick of seeing 26 year old college students. Heck our football team has a guy in his eighth year of college. It’s crazy.

Run em both all season. Alternate. Let it shake out. This is better than one guy riding the pine.
Seyko didn’t say that. But if there’s going to be a competition one guy has to be the starter, at least beginning with big ten schedule

Anyone feeling less optimistic after U23 that Henckel will be the best option at 174? Still think he’s very talented, but if you want to put the best possible lineup on the mat would he be a better option that Duke or MM? I know you’ll risk losing him but if redshirts are a thing of the past there will have to be some tough decisions.

Nah. He's the best 174 on your roster CURRENTLY.

It really depends on Duke/MM. If either want to go 174, they're taking the spot. I personally think MM moves up.

Why should record history be a consideration?

I get what he's saying.

Completely changes the history of the sport. You would literally have to have a * next to every record. It would be weird.

But the argument that schools need to "get as much out of them as they can, since they're paying them" - goes right to the heart of why these institutions suck in general, and will continue to lose these court cases.

I get that there’s frustration around that, but I’d never let that tail wag the dog. Should we have always used a dead ball in baseball? What about the forward pass in football? Golf drivers still made of wood?

Yeah... that's not the argument. Those are advancements in individual sports.

This is no different than the 3 years of eligibility to 4. It's fundamentally different and will cause the 4 year era, to be just that. An era. Plus the argument for it just sucks.

Yet, somehow without any issues college sports survived giving freshman eligibility.

Just grows appreciation of Levi, all of 21, college and 2 NC’s in the rearview, world opponents ahead. Yes, I’m still scratchy about 6 years older AOC’s win over our young hunter. Need an RAF rematch for closure. ;)

I'd expect Bassett, Henson, and Gaj all down a weight from this, with Flynn benched.

Also, Wright transferred to Tanning Bed U.

Was the Coaches push to eliminate minimum matches for a coaches' ranking a nod to the greater likelihood of load management/splitting weekend duals at competitive weights under 5 for 5?

(Sorry if this was already discussed)

The committee’s minutes state the following for their rationale:

“The committee feels that removing the minimum number of matches necessary to be ranked after they have qualified for the NCAA championships will allow for a more accurate ranking.”

To answer your question, though: Probably.

Did anybody else see the pics of PJ at a Sanderson Academy camp? It looks a bit like Levi when he jumped two weights. Maybe it’s just the clothes and season.
I think he is definitely moving up (either to 165 or 174). He and Mitchell will man the 165 and 174 lb weight classes for us...just not sure which at which.

My best guess:

125 Lilledahl
133 Ono
141 Blaze
149 Van Ness
157 James (or Kasak)
165 Messenbrink
174 Duke
184 Welsh
197 Barr
285 Connor Mirasola

Pretty formidable!

Heck...Our "theoretical" 2nd team would be a borderline trophy and assuredly top 10 team:

125 Wentzel
133 Desmond
141 Davis
149 Pierce
157 Kasak
165 Sealey
174 Henckel
184 Cunningham
197 Ellis

I think you're spot on with this lineup. James is a special talent who will force his way into the lineup. Ono will wrestle and him at 33 with Marcus at 41 appears to be the most likely configuration.
